Khilona, a 1970 film was a hit film on Indian screen. There were other ‘Khilonas’ made in the years 1942 and 1996 too. The Khilona under discussion was produced by L Y Prasad and directed by Chander Vohra. The star cast included Sanjeev Kumar, Mumtaz, Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Jagdeep, Jankidas, Aruna Irani, Mridula, Alka etc. The performance of Sanjeev Kumar was very much praised.
In This film, there was a dream sequence, in which heroine of the movie Mumtaz finds herself in the similar situation as faced by ‘Shakuntala’, in the play written by Kavi Kalidas. This was shown as a ballet in the film, for which music directors Lakshmikant Pyarelal composed a ‘RaagaMaala’ depicting the various situations in the play. Lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi. The song is sung by Manna Dey and Lata Mangeshkar in different moods and ragas according to the storyline described through the song. This play was composed using the raagas: Charukeshi, Khamaj, Pahadi and Nat-Bhairav in a sequence, creating a melodious RaagaMaala.

Wah! Mazza aa gaya Bharat Ji. Unfortunately this raagmala was overshadowed by other songs which became more popular. Thanks for posting this.
