“Aa Gale La Jaa” (1973) was produced by A K Nadiadwala and directed by Manmohan Desai. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, Shatrughan Sinha, Sulochana, Om Prakash, Jagdeep, Shobha Khote, Asrani, Gajanan Jagirdar etc in it.

Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the final song from the movie. This song is in fact a song in two versions. The happy version (which gets sad by the end of the song) is sung by Kishore Kumar and Sushma Shreshtha and it is picturised on Shashi Kapoor and a kid who is seen growing up with every passing stanza but loses his legs in a mishap and would need crutches to walk for the rest of his life.

The sad version, as can be guessed is meant to make people cry. It shows Shashi Kapoor fighting for his life while he son obviously does not know what will happen to him in this world, as Sharmila Taoge tries to console him.

The movie is 42 years old and I have not watched it. And going by the video of this song, which I find quite moving, I do not think I will have the stomach to watch this movie, even though I know very well that it is just a movie, after all.

Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by RD Burman.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

With this song, “Aa Gale Lag Jaa”(1973) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Part I (Happy version)
—————————–

ae mere bete
sun mera kehnaa
chaahe dukh hoye
hanste hi rehnaa
ae mere bete
sun mera kehnaa
chaahe dukh hoye
hanste hi rehnaa

tu mere bete kyun roye
ankhiyon ke moti kyun khoye
main tera ghoda main haathi
main tere sukh dukh ka saathi
tera main sahaara hoon
mera tu sahaara hai
jaan se bhi pyaara hai
aaja aaja

ae mere bete
sun mera kehnaa
chaahe dukh hoye
hanste hi rehnaa

rakhna bharosa uspe sadaa
jisne hai sabko janam diya
kal tera paapa rahe naa rahe
ab jo kahaa phir kahe naa kahe
kahaa naa bhulaana tu
wahi rakhwaala hai
usiko bulaana tu
aaja aaja

ae mere bete
sun mera kehnaa
chaahe dukh hoye
hanste hi rehnaa

socha thha kya aur kya laaya
dete huye ji bhar aaya
le ye baisaakhi
le le re
mere abhaage haathon se
isi ke sahaare chal
chal mere pyaare chal
paapa ke dulaare chal
aaja aaja

ae mere paappa
sun mera kehnaa
chaahe dukh hove
hanste hi rehnaa

Part II (sad version)
——————————
ae mere bete
ae mere bete
sun mera kehnaa
sun mera kehnaa
chaahe dukh hoye
chaahe dukh hoye
hanste hi rehnaa
hanste hi rehnaa

rakhna bharosa uspe sadaa

kal tera paapa rahe naa rahe
ab jo kahaa phir kahe naa kahe

Atulji, aap bhi majak karte ho. Manmohan Desai ki picture kabhi rone-dhone ki nahin ho sakti. Thoda bahut bas! Wase maine bhi yeh picture nahin dekhi hai. Magar ab dekhonanga!
