” DIVE INTO A GOOD BOOK ”

The picture shows one of the scenes of my dream we all know that the weirdest things in this world are dreams. Before this dream I read a book – ‘The midnight theft’. The name sounds good but the contents was just horrible. Now the question comes that if I found the book was such, then why did I go on to read the whole book. Actually it is my habit or I do not know what but I have a tendency to complete things which I have started.

That book irritated me a lot. So when I slept a dream came into my mind that everyone is jumping into a pool, not of water but of books ! It was my interpretation of the dream, that we all are looking for a good book. By ‘We all’ I mean all humans.

In the dream I saw everyone was running and diving into a pool, so I followed. The pool was full of books. Everyone was searching for a good book as I was doing.

I was looking for the books of Enid Blyton, Ayn Rand, Arthur Hailey and Alistair Mclain. All of these are fiction books as I prefer fiction over non fiction. I was also looking for the book ‘Gone with the wind’ since a long time. I was searching for these names, instead I was getting ‘Hardy Boys’, ‘Tinkle’, ‘Secret Seven’ and all which I feel are very boring. It seemed that I was just wasting my time in this.

A good book if read with a proper frame of mind, can become a lifelong friend. Similarly if read again after a gap of many years will feel like a long lost friend found again.

It is up to us whether to while away the precious lifetime in frivolous activities or look for great books, find them, read them, savor them, uncovering things amazing, revealing, enlightening from time to time.

‘The choice’ as they say is ours.

This is the short essay I helped or tried to help my son in writing for a school assignment given by his English teacher and class teacher. Before this I had no idea that my off spring is so lucid and coherent in writing down his experiences. Perhaps I should make him write a daily diary to further develop this skill. Every time I have to coax him into taking part in essay writing / creative writing competitions I was thinking may be he is not into expressing himself. May be he is trying to take himself and things seriously while appearing not to take things and life too seriously.

So this particular exercise, brought me to the word “kitaab’ and thought of writing a post about a ‘Kitaab’ song. The first song that came to mind was ‘kitaaben bahut si padhi hongi tum ne”. Trust ‘Sameer’ the most prolific of song writers of hindi films, to be so creative, in a funny romantic song. Referring to “Dikhaave a ahed-e-wafaa karnewaale ” too in the total timepass, nonsensical song from the film “Baazigar”. I decided to look for a better song. More search found the Rafi-Suman Kalyanpur duet “Dil ki kitaab kori hai kori hi rehne do” which is already posted. Some more search led to songs, talking of ‘Kitaab’, Sharaab and ‘Shabaab’ in that order. These were not the kind of song I was looking for.

Than I found this song from the film “Sansaar” (1971) takling of Kitaab, Gulaab and hisaab. This was definitely the better option for the post. So here is this the song from ‘Sansaar (1971), composed by Chitragupt. The lyricist is Saahir Ludhianvi. It is a Kishore Kumar solo song picturized on Navin Nishchal and Anupama. If I am not mistaken this is not the same Anupama from “Budha mil Gaya’ and ‘Raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi” fame. Of course Navin Nishchal is the same one, easy to recognize in his familiar attire from ‘Budha mil gaya”, ” Hanste Zakham” and another film with Madan Mohan’s music “Parwana”.

Song-Haathon mein kitaab baalon mein gulaab(Sansaar)(1971) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Chitragupta

Lyrics

Haathon mein kitaab
Baalon mein Gulaab
karna hai aaj
kis ka hisaab
meri jaan
iraada kya hai
meri jaan
iraada kya hai
haathon mein kitaab
Baalon mein Gulaab
karna hai aaj
kis ka hisaab
meri jaan
iraada kya hai
haan
meri jaan
iraada kya hai

kar ja zara
nazar se baat
munh na phiraa
adaa ke saathh
kar ja zara
nazar se baat
munh na phiraa
adaa ke saathh
zulfon ko
de na jhatkaa aa
zulfon mein dil hai atkaa
bahut din beete
akele jeete
roz nahin taal
yaaron ka sawaal
peechhe lagey aaj
huaa aadha saal
meri jaan
iraada kya hai
meri jaan
iraada kya hai

uff yeh teri
lachakti chaal
dil ka mere
buraa hai haal
uff yeh teri
lachakti chaal
dil ka mere
buraa hai haal
thhodaa sa
ruk ke hans jaa aa
matlab ye hai
ke phans jaa
bahut din beete
akele jeete
kate nahin raat
bane nahin baat
jaaga jaaga pyaar
maange teraa saathh
meri jaan
iraada kya hai
haan
meri jaan
iraada kya hai

yoon bhi kisi kaa
degi saathh
mehandi rachegi
tere haathh
yoon bhi kisi kaa
degi saathh
mehandi rachegi
tere haathh
honaa to hai paraayee
mujh mein hai kya buraayee
bahut din beete
akele jeete
teraa yeh gulaam
poochhe dil thhaam
raazi hai to bol
bhejoon paighaam
meri jaan
iraada kya hai
haan
meri jaan
iraada kya hai
haathon mein kitaab
baalon mien Gulaab
karna hai aaj
kis ka hisaab
meri jaan
iraada kya hai
haan
meri jaan
iraada kya hai

Nice Post Nahm ji !!
like that ‘… tendency to complete things which I have started “,
‘diving in a pool .. full of books’. Very recently me and my daughter visited ‘Cross Word’ at Nagpur, and as we enter in, the very first thing I said to my daughter was about the ‘fragrance of the books’.. yes, I love books since my childhood and I regularly add new books to my collection..
our best wishes to your Son in his future endeavors !!
thanks for a song from Sahir Saab.
@ typo in the 4 th line needs to be corrected – (when) ‘then why did I go on to read’

Very interesting read. 🙂

Apropos your statement,”Perhaps I should make him write a daily diary to further develop this skill.”

Can you interest him to write a daily post? 😉
