Today (9 july 2015) is the 33rd death anniversary of D N Madhok (22 october 1902- 9 july 1982). He was one of the major first generation lyricists in Hindi movies. In addition, he also wrote screenplays and dialogues of several movies and even directed movies.
D N Madhok wrote lyrics for more than 800 songs. His first film was Radheshyam (1932) and his last movie was “Samay Bada Balwan”(1969). He was mainly active in 1930s and 1940s and he was at the peak of his career in 1940s. Over 100 of his songs have already appeared in this blog.
“Bhakt Surdas”(1942), “Tansen”(1943) and “Rattan”(1944) are three all time hit musical blockbusters where D N Madhok was the lyricist.
D N Madhok is also remembered for helping Naushad get established in the industry as a music director.
As a tribute to D N Madhok, here is a song from “Prem Nagar”(1940). This song is sung by Sharda (according to HFGK). D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad who was making his debut as a music director with this movie. It goes without saying that D N Madhok was instrumental in getting Naushad this assignment.
I am unable to identify the lady in the picturisation. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her. I am also stuck up at a few places in the lyrics and I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections wherever applicable in the lyrics.

Mat Bolo Bahar Ki Batiya was sung and acted by Bimla Kumari. Ithink she could be Husna Banu.

I think it is
‘kaanon mein kaante, haathon mein choodiyaan’. ‘Kaante’ could be a reference for hook type jewellery.
