Today (14 july 2015) is the 40th death anniversary of Madan Mohan (25 june 1924- 14 july 1975). We are paying tribute to Madan Mohan today by discussing songs composed by him.
In one of my previous articles today, I mentioned that I have carried out a detailed moviewise analysis of all HFM songs composed by Madan Mohan.
My analysis takes a look at all the Madan Mohan movies (chronologically from 1950 to 2004, and alphabetically for movies of a particular year). The number of songs in the movies are known (thanks to HFGK, for movies till 1980). There is no HFGK after 1980s, so I have tried to find the details (number of songs in movies) through other sources. Madan Mohan also composed songs for some movies that were not released. A few songs from such unreleased movies have been covered in the blog, but the number of songs composed (and available) for such unreleased movies are not known (at least to me). Then there are some Madan Mohan songs that were lying unused and they have been released afterwards in albums such as “Tere Baghair” etc. I am not aware of the number of songs that were released in such albums. I request our knowledgeable readers to go through the table presented here and point out errors/ corrections as applicable.
Madan Mohan may have composed around 630 songs (in 90 odd movies) that were released as records/ sound tracks of various movies. In addition, there may have been another 20 odd songs that were later released in various albums. The blog has so far covered 464 Madan Mohan compositions (excluding this song) and that leaves another 160 odd compositions of Madan Mohan that remain to be covered. All songs of as many as 39 of these 90 odd movies have already been covered in the blog.

“Madan Mohan completed the music of film “Alif Laila” in the year 1953 when the Music Director of this film Shyamsunder passed away. He however did not take credit for his work for this film.”

We are now in countdown stage for Madan Mohan songs because we now have only 50 odd movies of Madan Mohan (out of 90 odd) to chose from for songs in the blog. Same is the case for Naushad and some other music directors. I will give similar break up for other music directors like Naushad, S D Burman, O P Nayyar etc as well.
