Usha Timothy ji turns 66 today. Greetings and many many happy returns of this celebration to her.
Usha ji is one of the crop of singers who came into the industry during the first part of the decade of 1960s. And had to remain contented with staying in the shadows of the the established singers. Before making her debut, she had earned her credentials, singing on stage with such stalwart artists like Rafi Sb, Mukesh, Kalyanji Anandji. Her first appearance on stage was when she was only 8 years old. And in 1962, she recorded her first song with the film ‘Durga Pooja’ (1962), when she was only 13. I have posted a detailed article on her with the song “Nazaaron Se Mil ke Nazar Chaar Kar Lo”.
This song is a very lovely ‘lorie’ song from the 1966 film ‘Vidyarthi’. The words are penned by Madhukar Bihari, and the music is by Babu Singh. Online, it is performed by Sulochana. The video version of the song is different from the audio version from the gramophone record. So I have uploaded the audio version also. The two versions have different second stanzas. The lyrics given below are a combination of the two versions. Also, the second stanza of the audio version is also partially heard in the beginning of the video version.
The words and the melody defy the categorization that this film may have suffered from. A truly wonderful creation.
