Mohammed Rafi – ‘अ’  से  ‘ह’ तक  (From ‘अ’ to ‘ह’) – 6

‘ए’
“एक एक एक, एक चाय की प्याली”

This song will definitely remind you of another very popular Rafi solo song. No prizes for guessing; the similarity of rendition of the first line is a dead giveaway. Yes, you will recognize the song immediately. Both songs are equally fast paced. however, after the first line, the similarity ends. The other song has already been identified as a Johnny Walker song, based on information provided in comments by one of our readers. My strong hunch is that even this song should be a Johnny Walker song. His name appears in the cast of actors of this film.

We come now to the sixth song of this series. But for having missed the letter ‘ई’ for the want of an un-posted song, this should have been the seventh song. Anyways. A ‘chai’ song after a long time, almost eighteen months. I went back and checked the category counts and find that this one is the fifth ‘chai’ song on our blog. It should be interesting to know how many more ‘chai ki pyaalian’ are still waiting to come on board.

The film is ‘Zamaana Badal Gaya’ from1961. This film recently made its debut on our blog, through the series ‘Missing Films of 1960s’. As per the Geet Kosh, the songwriter of this song is HA Rehbar. As I check back into the artist stats on the blog, this name is appearing for the first time. And a quick scan of the Geet Kosh says that this song is possibly the only song written by this ‘poet’ for Hindi films. I request our more knowledgeable readers and friends to please add more information about this person.

Music is by Iqbal Qureshi. Ah yes, also would like to request readers and friends who may have seen this film, to please comment on the on screen performance of this song. Is this a Johnny Walker song?

In any case, a good fun song sung by someone waiting for a cup of tea, and then adding that ‘ek chai banaane waali’ is also required. Some requirements for such a ‘chai banaane waali’ are also delineated.

An interesting fun song. Listen and enjoy.

Song – Ek Ek Ek, Ek Chai Ki Pyaali (Zamaana Badal Gaya) (1961) Singer – Mohammed Rafi, Lyrics – HA Rehbar, MD – Iqbal Qureshi

Lyrics

ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali
ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali
e……….k
chai banaane waali
ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali
ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali

na lambi baans jaisi ho
na ho kismet ki wo heti
na tingni is kadar ho
ke meri maloom ho beti
na lambi ho. . .
na lambi ho. . .
na itni fatty ho ke rail ka faatak bhi sharmaaye
na itni dubli ho ke haddi pasli tak nazar aaye
na dubli ho. . .
na dubli ho. . .
ho oo
kai khoobiyon waali
tirchhi tirchhi tirchhi
tirchhi nazron waali
o gori gori gori
o gori ho ke kaali
ae. . . do jahaan ke waali
mil jaaye to phir bas
mil jaaye to phir
ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali
ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali

na ho beemaa itni
daaktar rozaana ghar aaye
na itni tandrust ho
khaate khaate mujhko kha jaaye
na ho beemaar wo
na ho beemaar wo
na itni kaali ho ke dil mera kadwa masaala ho
na gori is qadar ho ke zamaana chaahne waala ho
na gori ho. . .
na gori ho. . .
ho oo
naazon ki wo paali
tirchhi tirchhi tirchhi
tirchhi nazron waali
o gori gori gori
o gori ho ke kaali
ae. . . do jahaan ke waali
mil jaaye to phir bas
mil jaaye to phir
ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali
o ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali
e……….k
chai banaane waali
ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali
o ek ek ek
ek chai ki pyaali

The song is sung to the tune of “Laal laal gaal”. The song is more about “chai banaane waali”, rather than about “Chai”. :). So it is a “matrimonial” song, filmy style. 🙂 Another such song was “Zaroorat hai zaroorat hai” from “Manmauji”(1962). I am opening a category of “matrimonial” songs now. 🙂

There was another song on Johny Walker who in his isthehaar specifies the qualities he desires of his would-be wife. Nahmji and we were searching for song and Sadanandji craked the song. It was something Anjaan or Anjaam in mid fifties
