Main bhi teri dil bhi tera jhoomnewaale

‘Sholay-1975’ was telecast on a ‘movie channel’ as many as three times between the second and fourth week of March this year. On the first occasion (12th March) I had gone to my Uncle’s place and I watched it there.
(And from there I also sent message on the ‘whattsapp group’ so the ‘Sholay fans’ in the group could watch it 🙂 )

Now, watching the films of Seventies with my Uncles is always an altogether different experience, because in between they would be sharing their memories and would also share some trivia of that time and some stories of my childhood too. When I was a child I got to watch many movies with my Uncles (as I have mentioned in few of my earlier posts).

Well, while watching ‘Sholay’ I got immersed into Pancham Da’s music and I was just taken over by the ‘Pancham fever’ over next couple of weeks.

So what did I do next?

I undertook the task of compiling the list of mp3s for all the films Pancham Da had composed music for. It lasted for about a ‘fortnight’ or so till an ‘outstation trip’ – to bring my daughters to home for their vacation –from Anand to Nagpur – interrupted this routine.

Meanwhile our dear Satyajit ji had shared a post on ‘FB’ – ‘A short clip on how (probably) Pancham Da’s rhythm section would come up with beats for a song’.
Commenting on his post and thanking him for the share I also mentioned there about what I was doing then. Prompt came the reply from Satyajit ji (that is what you can expect from an ardent RD Fan), that he already had all the songs of RDB in MP3 format from A to Z. He also mentioned that the ‘folder size’ containing these songs is more than 5 GB.

So, it was still a long way to go for me …

(As of now I have done 107 films with a folder size of 2.18GB only)

But till that ‘interruption’ took place, I had already taken a journey down memory lane. It was a journey full of ‘nostalgia’ where I revisited some songs that were till them consigned to my ‘vague memories’ and I found myself listening to them after years (may be after 30-35 years …).

I will be sharing a couple of such songs that particularly trigger some ‘nostalgia’ for me and these will follow after this post. Sharing these songs in the ‘summer’ season has ‘nostalgia’ associated with them about watching these films in ‘summer vacations’ in those years when I was growing.

Now, of course, there are no ‘summer vacations’ for us (working professionals), but we can always remember and cherish those beautiful years and that altogether different experience of ‘going crazy for’ and ‘watching movies’ then.

And this is that another reason that triggered the posts to follow which particularly will have two RDB songs and one from the duo of Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

In today’s post we have a song from a movie for which the music was not composed by RDB and also it has nothing do with the ‘seventies’ (my favorite subject), but its title has make this post possible. It is because, while going through the filmography of RDB above I came across this film ‘Sitamgar-1985’ for which the music was composed by RDB. This film has some good songs. And I remember that on our blog there has been a request for the songs from this film. I had also replied on the same that these songs will be there when their time comes. However I could not locate that old comment now.

So far there have been total three films with this title ‘Sitamgar’ (dictionary meaning -‘tyrant’, ‘oppressor’ or अत्याचारी, ज़ुल्म करने वाला ) that were released in 1954, 1958 and 1985. I would have been very happy to start with the oldest, but as of now the songs of this ‘1954-Sitamgar’ doesn’t seem to be available. Nevertheless, we have songs from the ‘1958-Sitamgar’ uploaded by enthusiastic music lovers and today we start with introducing one of the songs from this movie on the blog.

‘Sitamgar-1958’ was a ‘Roopwani Films, Bombay’ presentation directed by T.Prakash Rao. (As mentioned in HFGK Vol –III, the rights of this film were acquired by ‘Venus Pictures, Madras’ who released this film).

Music of this film was composed by two music directors G.Ramnathan and B.N.Bali, who jointly composed the songs for this film.
Lyrics of the songs (there were nine songs in this film) were by Sajan Bihari (eight) and Qamar Jalalabadi (one song).

Aarti Mukherji, Asha Bhonsle, Geeta Dutt, Manna Dey, S.Balbir, Sudha Malhotra, and Usha Mangeshkar gave their voices to the songs of this movie.

The film had Padmini, Shivaji Ganeshan, Ragini, Kannamba, Helen, M.N.Nambiar, M.K.Radha, K.A.Thangavelu, Somu and others in the cast.

The film was passed by the Censor Board on 04.12.1958.

It was a social film as mentioned in the HFGK.

(This film seems to be the Hindi dubbed version of Tamil film ‘Uthama Puthiran (1958)’ as mentioned in the various comments on the YT links of the songs of this film)

(There is a wiki page here on the Tamil film ‘Utham Puthiran -1958. I do not know why ‘Uthama Puthiran’ meaning ‘Virtuous Son’ in English becomes ‘Sitamgar’ in Hindi 🙂 and just to add further there is a note in HFGK for the ‘Sitamgar-1954’ which is ‘Sitamgar – 1954’* – *alias ‘Khoobsurat Tapu’ or Beautiful Island’ :), I could not understand the logic for such translation !

I sincerely wish that this post does not have any ‘sitam’ on the readers making me the ‘Sitamgar’. 🙂

Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is lip-synced by Padmini on screen. Also seen is Shivaji Ganeshan in the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song are by Sajan Bihari and music is composed by G.Ramnathan & B.N.Bali.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs please.

Devnagri script lyrics

आ आ आ आ आ
आ आ आ आ आ आ आ
आ आ आ आ आ आ आ
आ आ आ आ आ आ आ
आ आ आ
आ आ आ
आ आ आ
आ आ आ
आ आ आ
आ आ आ आ ….

According to one site all songs were written by Sajan Bihari.
Another strange happening. There was a same name movie in 1954. In spite of the mandatory cooling period of 10 years here comes the film in 1958! There are many such instances.
