Keh rahi hai ye zameen keh raha hai aasmaan

Today, 31 july 2016 is a day when we all pay our tributes to Rafi who left for his heavenly abode this day 36 years ago.

36 years ago ! It boggles the mind to realise that as many as 36 years have past from that day in 1980. It appears almost like yesterday. But yes, more than one third of a century has elapsed since then !

Seeing that this blog has become a collaboration of like minded music lovers, it comes as no surprise that the contributors of the blog think like me on this occasion and they too send their tributes to be posted on the occasion. I had received two contributions in time and I have already posted them, just a few minutes after midnight heralding that 31 july 2016 was on its way.

A few more regulars, who prefer to do things at the last moment are burning the midnight oil just as I type this. One such contributor has promised others (in the whatsapp group of the blog) that he would keep his contribution brief this time- much to the amusement of the others who know better. 🙂

While the India based and middle east based regulars can view all the three articles that have already been posted by now, our US based regular has been able to see only one post by the same time. So it proves that posts do take longer time to reach the other side of the world. 🙂

I had personally decided to go to sleep and do my postings in the morning, but I have decided to stay awake and do my blogging right now. It helps that this day is a sunday. Other regulars too are awake for the same reason. 🙂

It helps that I already had noted down the lyrics of a few songs earlier and so I only need to worry about typing out the articles while another of my fellow blogger too is busy typing out a “short” article. 🙂

Here is a nice philosophical song from an obscure movie called “Baghdaad Ka Jaadoo”(1956). This song is a special song as it contains the voices of Rafi as well as Mubarak Begam. The two of them came together to sing a song perhaps for the first time in this song. The song is described as a duet alongwith chorus, but I can also detect a male voice that sounds like Manmohan Krishna’s voice to me. I request our knowledeable readers to offer their views on the identity of this voice.

The song is picturised as a movie opening song. The song gets played as the opening credits roll on the screen. The credits reveal that it is a Basant Pictures production which was directed by John Cawas. The movie had John Cawas and Nadia in lead roles alongwith Krishna Kumari, Sheila Kashmiri, Habib, S Advani, Vijaya Chaudhary, Azeem, Nazeer Kashmiri, Poonam, Dalpat, abdullah, Neeta Roy, H Prakash, Julien, Shanta Patel, Shree Bhagwan, Korega, Baby Rehana, Ismail, Yadav, Prithvi, Munshi Munaqqa, Ratan Kumar, Sikandar, Mitthoo Miyaan, Sardar Mansoor, M K Hasan etc in it.

Preetam Dehalwi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shafi M Nagri.

This song is a tribute to Rafi as well as Mubarak Begam.

Lyrics

allaaaah aa aa
allaah aa aa aa aa
allaah aa aa aa

keh rahi hai ye zameen
keh raha hai aasmaan
keh rahi hai ye zameen
keh raha hai aasmaan
ruk nahin sakta kahin
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan

kis liye ghabra raha hai dekh kar veeraaniyaan
tere dum se ban gayi hai saari duniya gulsitaan
hai jahaan tere liye
ae ae ae
ae ae ae
ae ae
hai jahaan tere liye
tu hai is ka paasbaan
ruk nahi sakta kahin ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaaan

allah aa
allah aa aa aa

zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan

gham ne teri zindagi ki har khushi to cheen li
hai wo ?? zindagi ko cheen le
zindagi ki raah mein
ae ae ae ae
ae ae
zindagi ki raah mein aayenge laakhon imtahaan
ruk nahin sakta kahin ye zindagi ka kaarwaan

zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan

ghoomte hain raah mein
gaadi ke pahiye jis tarah
aa aa aa
ghoomte hain raah mein
gaadi ke pahiye jis tarah
aadmi ki zindagi bhi chal rahi hai is tarah
chalti rahegi ye zameen
chalta rahega aasmaan
ruk nahin sakta kahin
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan

chilchilaati dhoop hai ya maut ka saamaan hai ae
chilchilaati dhoop hai ya maut ka saamaan hai
pyaas ki taqleef se ab to labon pe jaan hai
jal raha hai dil magar ye chal raha hai kaarwaan

ruk nahin sakta kahin ye zindagi ka kaarwa
zindagi ka kaarwa
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan

(allaah aa aa a
allah aa aa )
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan
zindagi ka kaarwaaaan
ye zindagi ka kaarwaan

Atulji,

“Regulars on the other side of the globe” received four songs, this being the last one on this special day remembering Rafi Saab. Now waiting for more including a special one from “Middle East based regular” hoping he burned enough midnight oil to write a post with at least 1000 words.
Thanks for introducing this new song as a duet with Mubarak Begam.

Part-II of this number is at https://youtu.be/ENkWpA89x-U.

Excellent choice of a song, Atul. I receive this song as a gift.

May the voice of Rafi Saheb live forever (it will)

And may this blog never run out of songs to post (it won’t).

Shafi M Nagri also scored in>>
Shamsherbaaz(1953)
Sher Dil (1954)
Carnival Queen(1955)
Diler Daku (1957)
Circus Queen(1959)
Chini Jadugar(1959)

Preetam Dehlvi also penned in>>
Sher Dil (1954)
Carnival Queen(1955)
Jungle Ka Jaadu(1955)
Jungle Queen(1956)
Zimbo Ki Beti(1959)
Jungle Ki Duniya(1959)

gham ne teri zindagi ki har khushi to cheen li
hai wo ‘ insaan maut se jo ‘ zindagi ko cheen le

What a wonderful song this is. Love at first hear.. 🙂

Ok, so I didn’t keep to the 1000 words but I did burn the midnight oil, so at least I kept half of my promise. 🙂

Btw, Rafisaab and Mubarak Begum did sing together before 1956 too. The one that comes to mind instantly is “Devta tum ho mera sahara” from Daera (1953).
