This blog by now has become an online collaboration of likeminded music lovers. And these music lovers are collaborating on quite a few “projects” that may be informal but quite important and significant nevertheless.

Some “projects” have several people associated in them and people may be aware of them, while there are other “projects” that may have only one or two people associated with them and people may not be aware of them.

Instead of discussing them all in one post, I will discuss them in separate posts. Here in this post, I will discuss one of the more visible projects, namely project YIPPEE.

When the blog began, we used to discuss songs without keeping tracks of them. After several months/ years, when the number of songs became sizeable, we began to keep track of them by listing them moviewise, music directorwise and yearwise. That way, we began to know how many songs from which movie was discussed in the blog.

But we were not aware of the number of songs that these movies had. Our beloved inhouse encycopaedia, Mr ArunkumR Deshmukh, who has a vast collection of music related publications with him, consulted Hindi Film Geet Kosh (HFGK) and began to point out that some movies had just one or two songs left in them.

It was then that we thought about covering all songs of these movies and then colouring the title of the movie orange in our list to signify that all the songs of these movies were already covered.

Covering songs of musically popular movies was no challenge where all the songs were already available on YT. But we found that there were movies where most songs would be available but there would be typically one song that would be unavailable. Searching these songs became the main challenge in covering the missing song of such movies.

The missing song would sometimes be available online in sources other than YT. A huge source of missing songs is Mr Surjit Singh’s site where lots of music collectors send their musical treasures to him and he uploads them on this site.

It is a great source for music lovers. But one needs to be extremely patient because finding what one is looking for is not that easy to locate as of now, but then one should not look the gift horse in the mouth.

Then we have our own inhouse treasure house of rare songs in Sudhir Jee. In addition to his own vast collection, he keeps getting music from his contacts. In addition, he keeps cajoling/ requesting his collector friends for rare to find songs.

All the above help us in getting to the songs that are often required to complete the full set of songs for movies. These missing songs serve other purpose as well, viz they help us in enjoying some rare treasure for the first time, helping some rare movies open their account in the blog etc.

Sudhir Jee, and of late Mr Sadanand Kamath are two regulars who are making conscious efforts to see that movies get YIPPEED and also to ensure that “new” movies make their debuts in the blog. As of now, 809 movies have been YIPPEED whereas songs from 3439 movies are represented in the blog.

To put things in perspective, about 6000 Hindi movies were released from 1931 to about 1980 which are the movies of interest to us. An estimated 1000 or so of these movies alongwith their music is lost. So my own rough assessment is that we have about 5000 movies to work with whose music may be available and we have covered nearly 70 % of them.

It will be interesting to see the final number of movies that we will be able to get on board. Likewise, it would be interesting to see how many YIPPEED movies would be there finally. My own guess is that it would not be more than 2000. So we are at around 40 % stage when it comes to YIPPying the movies.

The term YIPPEE to describe a movie with all songs covered was coined by Pradeep Raghunathan. He took these YIPPied movies and began his own project to prepare a smart list of all these songs. In the blog, his project is also popularly known as project YIPPEE. I think that the process of covering all songs of a movie in the blog should be described as blog YIPPEE whereas Pradeep Raghunathan’s project should be described as smartlist YIPPEE. Both are vast and ambitious projects that will make the musical experience of music lovers far more easy and pleasant.

As of now, both the YIPP projects have caughtt up with each other as described by Avinash Scrapwala in this article a few days back. At that time, blog YIPPEE tally stood at 808 whereas smartlist YIPPEE tally stood at 806. Now that the two projects have caught up, I hope that the later project would from now onwards get updated as soon as new movies get YIPPEED in the blog. We have lots and lots of songs that are waiting in the pipeline to be YIPPEED.

Here is the 809th movie to be YIPPEED in the blog. This movie is “Jhumroo” (1961) which was a Kishore Kumar project where Kishore Kumar had done everything from Producing it, acting in it, singing in it, composing music in it etc. The only thing he did not do himself was acting in the female lead. For that he enlisted the services of his wife and sister in law, viz. Madhubala and Chanchal.

The movie had twelve songs in it. All these songs had lyrics that were quite lengthy and they had lots of gibberish words. Noting down the lyrics of these lengthy songs was quite a challenge.

Here is the twelfth and final song from “Jhumroo”(1961) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kishore Kumar.

Only the audio of this song seems to be available. Either the song was excluded from the movie, or if picturised, it had to be on the lead pair of Kishore Kumar and Madhubala. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
PS-Now I know, thanks to information provided by reader vijayavaman tej that this song was indeed picturised on Kishore Kumar and Madhubala, with Anoop Kumar also visible. It is Anoop Kumar who lip syncs the “gibberish” portion of the song.

I have not been able to note down some parts of the song, especially the “gibberish” parts of the lyrics that appear to be phrases in Hindi, Bangla etc which have been grambled to make them sound comical. I request our readers with keenrer ears to suggest corrections in the lyrics wherever applicable.

With this song “Jhumroo” (1961) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.
