Song-Bhagwaan kahaan hai (Lahore)(1949) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Shyam Sundar

Lyrics

hey bhagwaan kahaan hai
bhagwaan, bhagwaan
insaan ne insaan pe kya zulm kiya hai
apna hi lahu thha jise hans hans ke piya hai
bichhde huye maaon se ye aankhon ke ujaale ae ae
bichhde huye maaon se ye aankhon ke ujaale
phoolon se nikal kar huye kaanton ke hawaale
bhagwaan, bhagwaan
is desh ki vo deviyaan nangi hui tan se
uthh uthh ke nikalti thhi jo sooraj ke kiran se
mandir mein na bhakti hai
na masjid mein azaan hai
aawaz de soye huye bhagwaan kahaan hai
bhagwaan, bhagwaan

manzil hai kahaan inki kahaan jaayen ye raahi
hai chhaayi hui raah mein kismat ki syaahi
phoolon ko taraste hain jo rahte thhe chaman mein
begaane huye aaj ye apne hi watan mein
bhagwaan jo tu hai to bata inko thhikaana
varna tujhe bhagwaan kahega na zamaana
bhagwaan, bhagwaan

We had discussed about the MD for this film, earlier too. Though HFGK gives only Shyam Sundar’s name. But there seems to be Vinod also as another MD. According to Viswas Nerurkar’s ‘Gandhar Swaryatra’ the music for Lata’s three solos and two duets is by VINOD. I had personally talked to Viswas-ji who told me that he personally had gone to HMV’s office and had seen with his own eyes hand-written labels for those songs and had confirmed about the controversial subject. Last time I was told in comments that since the title of the film and HFGK mention only Shyam Sundar, the mater was closed, then in Shyam Sundar’s favour. Now luckily our dear encyclopedia Arunbhai Deshmukh has agreed that Viswas-ji may be right. Though one Lata song ‘Baharen Phir Bhi Aayegi’ is by Shyam Sundar as per Viswas Nerurkar. I can give his number and e-mail if somebody wants to talk to him and get the facts him or herself.
