“Ek Ke Baad Ek”(1960) was produced and directed by Raj Rishi for Rajkala, Bombay.

This movie had Dev Anand, Sharda, Tarla Mehta, Radhakishan, Prabhu, S K Prem, Hiralal, Madhu Apte, Fazal, Ravikant, Vimal, Mumtaz, Rani Sachdev, Shah, Omi etc with lots of child artists, viz. Brij, Reeta, Geeta, Raj Amrohi, Kiran Kumar, Manorama etc.

Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.

Today (3 november 2016) is the fifth death anniversary of Dev Anand. On this occasion, I thought of discussing a song from “”Ek Ke Bad Ek”(1960). I selected this song from the movie which is sung by Manna Dey and chorus. It is only when I listened to the song and watched the video that I realised what the title of the movie meant. “Ek Ke Baad Ek” in the title means producing one child after another, unmindful of the consequences. In fact, this song, which is the background song, is very much the theme song of the movie which decries this irresponsible flouting of family planning norms. The movie has one man who keeps produced child after child and finally his hapless wife dies durng one of her countless child births. And it is then that this background song takes place.

Kaifi Azmi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman. The picturisation shows Dev Anand as well as others (whom I am unable to identify).

The actress is Tarla Mehta(In real life she is sister of actress Dina Gandhi aka Dina Pathak), who is there in Dharmendra`s Shola aur shabnam

I had seen this movie and was most disappointed to see Dev Anand act in this nondescript movie based on message of family planning which, too,was presented poorly..S K Prem and Tarla Mehta are elder brother and Bhabhi of Dev Anand. The latter loves Sharda (of south) who only disappointed audience. Perhaps, the redeeming part was that Tarla Mehta after this movie was elevated as Heroine opp. Dharmendra in Shola Aur Shabnams

Thanks for the details and for confirming my guess about the story. 🙂

@Atul ji – kindly correct the year of the movie as 1960 below in the write-up and in the song title below the YT link please.
