Another request from Arvinder ji.  And another delightful song that I must thank him for introducing to me. I heard this song for the first time after Arvinder ji’s persistent requests finally made me pull this song out and listen to it. It was love at first hear 😉 (ah, the phrase being used again today). And yes, another theme being used again today is the ‘keep your hearts safe’ message. In an earlier post today, Atul ji has uploaded the Shamshad Begum song – “Meri Nazren Pockekmaar Sambhaalo Dil Ke Pocket Ko”. And in this song, the lady is announcing that

The film is ‘Naag Padmini’ from 1957. This is a historical film, produced by Mulkhraj Bhakri under the banner of Golden Movies, Bombay and is directed by Lekhraj Bhakri. The cast of actors includes Mahipal, Shakeela, Hiralal, Maruti, Tiwari, Niranjan Sharma, Kammo, Krishna Kumari, Kanchanmala, Tun Tun, Daljeet, Sadiq, amongst others. There are 8 songs in this film, all coming from the pen of Prem Dhawan. Music is by Sanmukh Babu.

One sample of the music of this film is already showcased on our blog – “O Naar Albeli, Na Jaiyo Re Akeli”. As I checked out that post, I am amused to note that the earlier song was also posted by me, and at that time too, Arvinder ji was the motivating factor for making that post happen. That was way back in Nov of 2015. I must say, he has been daringly patient, waiting for this second song to appear here. Thank you, Arvinder ji.

The earlier song is quite a delight, and so is this one. It is such a lilting melody, that immediately grabs attention. And with the ‘chulbuli’ voice of Sudha Malhotra, the romance, the playfulness and the charm of this creation is heightened. The song is a rare duet, in the sense that combinations as this one – Sudha Malhotra singing along with Madhubala Zaveri, are not too many, and are not easy to find.

The song is a racy, pacy number, in which the words have been very ably crafted into the mould of the melody.  One line really captures the mind,

haal na poochhe koi teer maar ke
rakhna kaabu

So truly said – of this world and its people, and also of the ‘pocketmaars’ who would injure and purloin the heart with darts coming in with the askance glances. A very lovely song, to be listened and to fall in love with.

Song – Din Hain Suhaane Mastaane Pyaar Ke (Naag Padmini) (1957) Singer – Sudha Malhotra, Madhubala Zaveri, Lyrics – Prem Dhawan, MD – Sanmukh Babu Upadhyay
Sudha Malhotra + Madhubala Zaveri

Lyrics

din hain suhaane mastaane pyaar ke
chhaaya jaadu
ho oo jaadu
aayi hoon rang le ke main bahaar ke
rakhna kaabu
dil rakhna kaabu
din hain suhaane mastaane pyaar ke
chhaaya jaadu
ho oo jaadu

ye duniya ik jaadu nagri
kuchh ka kuchh ho jaaye re
ho oo oo kuchh ka kuchh ho jaaye re
pal mein idhar hai
pal mein udhar hai
kya kya khel rachaaye re
ho oo oo kya kya khel rachaaye re
chalte hain daanv yahaan jeet haar ke
rakhna kaabu
dil rakhna kaabu
din hain suhaane mastaane pyaar ke
chhaaya jaadu
ho oo jaadu

is duniya ke rang niraale
is ki leela nyaari
ho oo oo is ki leela nyaari
pal mein bhikhaari ho jaaye raja
pal mein raja bhikhaari
oo oo pal mein raja bhikhaari
jeevan ke mele raja din chaar ke

rakhna kaabu
dil rakhna kaabu
din hain suhaane mastaane pyaar ke
chhaaya jaadu
ho oo jaadu

is duniya mein kis ki rahi hai
aur rahegi kis ki
ho oo oo aur rahegi kis ki
maaya chhalni
jaadu garni
aankh bachi aur khiski
oo oo oo aankh bachi aur khiski
haal na poochhe koi teer maar ke
rakhna kaabu
dil rakhna kaabu
din hain suhaane mastaane pyaar ke
chhaaya jaadu
ho oo jaadu
aayi hoon rang le ke main bahaar ke
rakhna kaabu
dil rakhna kaabu
din hain suhaane mastaane pyaar ke
chhaaya jaadu
ho oo jaadu
