Atul ji’s 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 6
——————————————————————–

Hullo to all in Atuldom

Mubaarak Ho. . .

At the very outset, I must congratulate our Leader or Sutradhar as I like to call him or Ranchi Wala Gaanewala as Sudhir ji once called him (he is no longer in Ranchi but the name stays) on reaching a very important milestone- 10000 songs, imagine it is TEN THOUSAND posts by a single person. For this we should all give a collective YYIIPPEEEE!!!! Mubarak Ho! Mubarak Ho!

This must be a record of sorts where a blog has survived this looong and its karta-dharta has sooo many posts to his credit. And to think that this blog doesn’t make any comments or remarks on any person, place, caste, religion etc. the closest we come to religion is when a bhajan or qawwali is posted. Three cheers to that!

I would love to learn from our dear Atul ji how he manages his time. I know for sure that he has to look after his pets, home and job along with reading up and doing research for and about the songs that he intends to post here in the blog. Also, he has the added task of enduring pests like me who send contribution at the nth hour. Only I know the number of times I might have messaged him or called him to draw his attention to a mail that I had sent him, after discovering a birth date or death anniversary around one o’clock (day-time 😉), then looking for a song, writing a post, reading the whole thing at least once before I send it; all this would take me an hour or two; by which time it will be 4 in the afternoon; by when (I am certain) Atul ji would have had his stock of posts ready for the day; but the angel that he is he will still try his level best to accommodate this late entry of mine. Thank you Atul ji for reigniting the writing bug in me after possibly 20 years of inaction.

I am sure more organised people like Guru ji, Maha Guru ji, Sudhir ji and also all the regulars who send contributions; send their posts and farmaishes well in advance so that Atul ji finds time to decide where to fit in that particular post or check the lyrics for correctness etc. I am sure he does this even after 13k+ songs have been posted and all his contributors are sticklers for correct details about the songs they send and the lyrics that go with it. This blog is the only place in the cyber world where we find songs with complete and correct lyrics in addition to a little knowledge about the songs or the movie or the picturization etc. And what I admire most about his style is he is ready to admit when he has not heard a particular note or syllable. He admits when he cannot recognise an artist. He does not show an “I know everything” attitude. Hats off to you Atul ji.

You are a true leader in the sense that after I started following the blog I have started paying attention to the words, music, lyricist etc. connected with songs. Till then I used to be a slave of the song, only!!! I can show many songs where I used to sing them along with whatever I thought was the right words. The most recent example of me, finding myself wrong being, when I heard this ever favourite song of mine from Navrang – “Aadha Hain Chandrama“. I used to sing it as “Sur aadha hain saamne baadha” (God alone knows why I thought those were the words). Recently when I heard the song again I realised that it is “Sur aadha hi shaam ne saadha”. I don’t want to give more examples and make this post extra-long. Thank you Atul ji, for making me an attentive listener. Now there is only one thing left for me to-do; visit him in his den and see him in action as I am sure many in this Atuldom have had the chance to.

We all know that before he began Atulsongaday our “fearless leader” (again borrowing a term that Sudhir ji uses for our Sutradhar) had started a blog on another pet passion of his, and that is why he is SQUARECUT ATUL. I am not sure if he himself was ever a cricketer but he is an avid follower of the game and that is another passion that many of us Atulites share with him. And with it being the IPL season the cricket bug is in the air. I think the song with this post I ideal for the occasion. It is from the 2007 release ‘Hattrick’ which is produced by UTV Movies and directed by Milan Luthria. It has a non-starry cast of Paresh Rawal, Nana Patekar, Danny and Kunal Kapoor with Rimi Sen. It showed the life of cricket crazy characters one of whom was himself an ex-cricketer (Danny). It has Sandeep Patil, Harsha Bhogle and Gautam Bhimani (the commentator) making guest appearances. The movie had Mayur Puri, Amit Khanna, Vishal Dadlani & Ashish Pandit as lyricists and Pritam Chakravarty as the music director. Today’s song is by Mayur Puri and Usha Iyer (that was what she was when she debuted and later on became Uthup) with Earl Edgar D’Souza. The song appears towards the end of the movie and we have the whole cast grooving in the party mood with Bhogle, Bhimani,John Abraham and Usha Uthup joining the fun.

Let’s celebrate our leader’s looooong innings. As the cricket commentators used to say once upon a time “over to the stadium for the live relay of the match” I say “over to the song now.”

Song – Run To Banega Par Wicket Bachaa (Hattrick) (2007) Singer – Usha Uthup, Lyrics – Mayur Puri, MD – Preetam
Earl Edgar
Chorus

Lyrics

—–???
(lots of English words by Earl Edgar)

apni kismat ka tu hi god
zindagi hai baayees gaj ki daud
bat ko zameen se rakh chipka
run to banega par wicket bacha
ye dekh aayi next ball
kya hai tera call
khelega uthake ab tu banega wall
zara cut to laga
dekho hota hai kya
run to banega par wicket bacha

dil se
shout India
dil se
shout India
dil se jeet le dilko
bas thats the way to play
dil se
shout India
dil se
shout India
dil se jeet le dilko
bas thats the way to play

(again lots of English words)

silly point pe hai life latki
sab ki nigaahen tujh pe hai atki
tujhe mile mauka
tu laga le choka
run to banega par wicket bacha
sabko hai doubt
tu hai hone wala out
beat jo hua toh sabhi karenge shout
koi gap dhoond kar saare fielder bhaga
run to banega par  wicket bacha

dil se
shout India
dil se
shout India
dil se jeet le dilko
bas thats the way to play
dil se
shout India
dil se
shout India
dil se jeet le dilko
bas thats the way to play

(again Earl Edgar)

khel ye nahi hai ye hai jung mere bhai
aaj tu dikha de tere rang mere bhai
dang reh jaaye sabhi dekh tera hausla
run to banega par wicket bacha
chaahe right chaahe aaye googly
tujpe uthe na kabhi koi ungali
bas score ko badha
bina liye khatra
run to banega par  wicket bacha

dil se
shout India
dil se
come on India
dil se jeet le dilko
bas thats the way to play
dil se
shout India
dil se
shout India
dil se jeet le dilko
bas that the way to play
dil se
shout India
dil se
shout India
dil se jeet le dilko
bas that the way to play

Perfect song for Atul ji.

Very good article. Simple, heart touching and to the point. The writing is also well built, meaning that it has not spilt over unconnected things, which is the bane of many writers.
Peevesie’s Mom ji, you sure have become an expert writer.

You have touched upon an important aspect of Atul ji’s discipline and that is accuracy of the lyrics and his insistence and attempts for this. The quality of Lyrics on this Blog surely is a matter of uniqueness and pride for all Atulites. I know of a dispute in a group of Facebook over the wordings of Lyrics of a particular song and the hot dispute was solved when someone quoted the Lyrics from this Blog as the ultimate weapon. So much respect is there in the fraternity for this Blog !
Thanks again for your engrossing article.

dhanyawaad!!! you liked my post.
i was very truthful in saying that i had lost my habit of writing. it is in this last few years of writing for the blog that i have managed to think and put the thoughts to words
i am really thankful to tips from you and Atulji. if he had not converted my first mail to him into a post (song from Amol Palekar’s Taxi Taxi; i think) i would have stuck to sending lyrics.
🙂

A well written post accompanied by a Fun song. I wonder if the song was inspired by Harry Belafonte’s Banana boat song.

Very good post, Peevisie’s Mom. Very well crafted.

I especially like two points that you’ve brought out here.

First, that Atul never has this “I know everything” attitude. He’s always ready to accept that he might have made a mistake, e.g if he’s got an identification or lyrics wrong. That’s the best way to learn and correct.

Secondly, this attention to lyrics. In the past I would pay attention to lyrics (I’m always been fond of lyrics!) but would often get them wrong. After following this blog, I pay much more attention to them, try to understand the meaning and context. It has considerably enriched my appreciation for HFM. All thanks to this blog.

Lovely article, PMji. We in Atuldom know of these qualities of our dear Leader. Most of all, his willingness to share, nay even flash spotlight on others is the very endearing. It enriches his blog more. People here feel this is their own Blog and work to make it grow.

I am confident that this blog will continue to grow by leaps and bounds.

Very lovely post Nalini ji, it made for an enchanting read. How true the words about Atul ji ring 🙂

Unfortunately I could not listen to this song, as it is not available on YouTube, in THIS country (USA), where I am now. Anyway Nalini-ji I enjoyed the article very well written. and let me write about a humorous remembrance.
First, I was a star child singer(in Forties), in my small town, with no film theaters. Even Hindi was not commonly spoken or understood then, as it is now. My main source of songs was from a Mumbai based cousin, who used to visit us in every vacation. I used to sing those songs boldly without realizing that they were full of wrong lyrics. Later on when I realized, that they were wrong, it was a subject of humor to talk about them. For example, there was a song, “Nadi Kinaare Aao Baithe Mil Kar Jee Bahelaaye’ and I used to sing, as taught by my cousin, even in public programs, “Nadi Kinaare Aao Baithe Mil Kar JEEBH HALAAYE”. There were number of such songs, but I do not want to boar our readers.
To be meticulous about the lyrics, set by Atulji, is the landmark of this musical Blog and you have rightly pointed out, how it is very much different than other blogs.
