Hindi movie songs of the golden era tended to have certain standard song situations. The lyricists were asked to provide lyrics for those situations. And it must be said that the lyricists often managed to do some value additions of their own even in these routine song situations.
Take mujra songs for instance. Almost every Hindi movie of those days tended to have a mujra song situation. This blog itself has as many as 207 mujra songs as of now. And quite a few of these songs have ended up becoming memorable songs.
“Joru Ka Ghulam”(1972) was a “social” movie which was directed by A Bhim Singh for United Four, Bombay. The movie had Nanda, Rajesh Khanna, Om Prakash, Sharad Kumar, Maneesha, Achla Sachdev, Kedar Sahgal, Ramesh Deo, Gurnaam, Mridula, Jayshree T, Narbada Shankar, Kabeer, Moolchand etc with guest appearances by Komal, Manmohan Krishn, Nana Palsikar and Ifthikar.
The movie had five songs in it. Four of these songs (every song being of a separate genre) have been covered in the blog.
Here is the fifth and final song from the movie. And this song happens to be a mujra song. It is sung by Lata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
Anand Bakshi has come up with interesting lyrics for this mujra song. The song is picturised on Jayshree T and Ramesh Deo plays her customer in the kotha.
I had never heard this song before and I must say that I liked this song right from the very firdst time that i heard it, which was today, some 46 years after this song was released. 🙂
With this song, “Joru Ka Ghulam”(1972) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.
