Today’s song is from a film Jeete Raho-49- a C grade action and stunt film.

” In every real man, a child is hidden that wants to play “- said German Philosopher Fredrick Nietzsche. As a child, one enjoys stories of valour, magic, superpowers and adventures. As an adult, the taste changes but what is etched in the core of mind, remains. That is why, when you see children playing Cricket or Football, you feel like trying your hand. When you see a Policeman catching a thief valiantly, you clap with glee. When you are alone you get lost in day dreaming. So on and so forth….

Sports biopic is a rare genre for Hindi film industry until recently. Producing a sport biopic film is like venturing into an uncharted water. However, the box office successes of ‘Paan Singh Tomar (2012) and ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ (2013) have created a trend in Bollywood to produce sports biopic films on a regular basis. During the last 5 years, sports biopic such as ‘Mary Kom’ (2014), ‘Dangal’ (2016), ‘Azhar’ (2016), ‘Budhia Singh – Born to Run’ (2016), ‘M S Dhoni – The Untold Story (2017) and ‘Soorma’ (2018) were released. Some more sports biopic films have been in the pipelines for a long time. They include films on Dhayan Chand (Hockey), Saina Nehwal (Badminton), P V Sindhu (Badminton), Abhinav Bindra (Shooting) etc.

[Ed Note: With sincere apologies to the author and the readers. This write up was delivered to the editors much in advance of the blog anniversary date. It is our oversight that we missed posting it on 19th July. The lapse is regretted.]

As the blog turns 11 today, we can celebrate the first step in the double digit age milestone.  Numerilogically, 11 means 1+1=2 . Does this mean second stage of second phase ?  Or 11 simply means gyarah number ki bus.  Mumbaikar’s know that gyarah number bus means ‘to walk on two feet’.  Walking walking we have reached the 15000 plus figuratively.

So. . . its “Chalte Chalte Mere Ye Geet Yaad Rrakhna. . .  Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. . . Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. . .

Today’s song is from an obscure, unknown film, Bhagya Laxmi-1944.

The film had a good star cast like, Shanta Apte, Prem Adib,Vasanti, Rajkumari Shukla, Jagdish Sethi, Moni Chaterjee etc. The few songs of this film, which I have heard make me feel that music too was good. ‘Proof of the Pudding is in its eating’-listen to today’s song and you too will like this very melodious song. Shanta Apte can not be called a very good singer- she was OK. But the Lyrics and the tune of the song has taken her voice to a new height. It is genuinely an excellent song indeed.

Today’s song is from film Nakhre-51. It is sung by Devendra Mohan, Shamshad Begum and chorus. This is a foot tapping song, reminding of a Vinod or O P Nayyar song. The tune of this song resembles a more well known song of later period, but I am unable to identify it. This is a second successive song I am discussing, after song from “Hawai Khatola”-46 which also had a similar tune to some other song.

I have come across umpteen number of songs from Hindi films which have similar tunes-in part or the whole song. I am not talking of Parody songs, because Parody songs obviously use a popular tune to make fun of it,with different but funny lyrics. Here the intention is to make a comedy song.

chaahe kahin bhi tum raho,
chaahenge tumko umr bhar
tumko na bhool paayenge

Remembering Mukesh on his 96th birth anniversary (22 July 1923 to 27 August 1976).

A life and career spent on entertaining music lovers all over the world, the very mention of his name brings to the mind several of his priceless renditions. A voice which remains active on air-waves to this day and beyond. More than being on the air-waves and various technological formats, it is the legacy and remembrance of the familiar voice that continues to dwell in the hearts of music lovers. 21st July, 1969 – a tiny me was waiting for the arrival of the school bus, around 6.40 am in the morning, at the end of the lane where we lived, in Karol Bagh area of Delhi. Three, maybe four other friends, going to the same school – executing the normal morning routine, with strap bags on shoulders, waiting to espy the school bus that we all recognized oh so well, to take a turn from a crossing about 200 metres away – to come, and to gobble us up, and to carry us to yet another day at the school. I think, it was too early in life to philosophize about the love-hate relationship with education, school and school teachers. It was still kind of an eager fun to travel in the bus and get to a classroom, and spend time watching teachers do their things on the blackboard, for us. Ah yes, the blackboards back then were actually black, and white chalks were then the standard instrument of communication between the teacher and us.
