Sahir Ludhianvi & His Music Directors-9 – (more than ‘ten-movies collaboration’)
In my earlier post in this series, I had mentioned that after the ‘seven-movie’ collaborations we have only three collaborations left and that they are ‘more than ten-movie collaborations’ with music directors N. Datta, S.D. Burman and Ravi.
So, out of total 717 songs written by Sahir Ludhianvi as per the total of HFGK 48% songs i.e., 347 songs are with music directors other than the above three music directors.
We have covered one of these ‘three-big’ collaborations i.e., Sahir-N. Datta collaboration in the earlier post. They collaborated for seventeen (17) movies including one un-released movie i.e., ‘Picnic-1960’. And the total number of songs from this collaboration are 108 (as per HFGK).
If we include the post before this the total number of songs now on the blog for Sahir- N Datta collaboration is 104.
Now we move to the next big collaboration which as per the total number of movies is with S.D. Burman, and Sahir and S.D. Burman collaborated for ‘eighteen’ (18) movies creating 134 songs. If we add the ‘verses’ from ‘Pyaasa-1957’ and two snippets (from ‘House no.44-1955’ and ‘Funtoosh-1956’ (as given in the book ‘The People’s Poet’ by Akshay Manwani) the total comes to 140. Well, we have 135 songs already posted on the blog for this collaboration.
I am not giving the details of movies of ‘Sahir-S.D. Burman collaboration’ in today’s post. I am leaving it to be covered in another post which will be coming on a very special occasion.
However, we can have a look of the summary of Sahir-S.D. Burman collaboration which is as given below;
S.no. | MD | Songs of lyricist in the blog | Song penned by lyricist in movie as per HFGK | Song penned by lyricist in movie as per the book -The People’s Poet |
---|---|---|---|---|
01 | S.D. BURMAN | 135 | 134 | 140 |
Today we are move to the next ‘one of the three great collaborations’ which is Sahir and music director Ravi.
But here we will take a pause, and listen to one of the songs of this association from the oldest pending movie ‘not yippeeee’ed’ on the blog which is ‘Paisa Ya Pyaar-1969’. (I am taking this liberty to cover one more song in this series 😊)
‘Paisa Ya Pyaar-1969’ was directed by Jawar N Sitaraman for ‘Gemini Productions, Madras’. It had Ashok Kumar, Mala Sinha, Biswajeet, Tanuja, Shashikala, Jagirdar, Aseem Kumar, Abhimanyu Sharma, Gopal Krishnan, Sharad Kumar, Lalita Kumari, Praveen Pal, Sarita Devi and others.
This movie had five songs written by Sahir Ludhianvi and composed to music by Ravi.
So far, three songs of this movie have been posted on the blog. Today we listen to the fourth song of this movie which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and performed on screen by Mala Sinha.
I have not watched this movie ‘Paisa Ya Pyaar’, but when I listened to the today’s song it looks like a familiar song but not much heard or frequently played song.
And the composition by Ravi also appears to be a ‘Shankar-Jaikishan’ style composition.
That is what I think 😊
let us now listen to the today’s song …

Song-Jaane kyun baar baar baar mera dil (Paisa Ya Pyaar)(1969) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Ravi
Lyrics
jaane kyun baar baar baar
mera dil
mujhe kahe usse mil
mujhe kahe usse mil
jaane kyun baar baar baar
mera dil
mujhe kahe usse mil
mujhe kahe usse mil
jaane kyun baar baar baar
mera dil
mujhe kahe usse mil
mujhe kahe usse mil
jis’se milte nahin
bilkul hi khayaalaat tere
kyun pareshaan hai uske liye
jazbaat tere
jab bhi wo mujhse milaa
usne sataaya mujhe
mujhko buraa to lagaa
phir bhi wo bhaayaa mujhe ae
jab bhi wo mujhse milaa
usne sataaya mujhe
mujhko buraa to lagaa
phir bhi wo bhaayaa mujhe
jaane kyun baar baar baar
mera dil
mujhe kahe usse mil
mujhe kahe usse mil
jo tere husn ki tauheen kare
us’se naa mil
jo kisi doosri sajdhaj pe mare
us’se naa mil
mujhko to jo bhi dekhe
raahon mein aahen bhare
main kyun kisi pe maroon
mujh pe zamaana marey
jaane kyun baar baar baar
mera dil
mujhe kahe usse mil
mujhe kahe usse mil
ho sake to koyi
sangeen sazaa de usko
tere qaabil nahin wo
dil se bhulaa de usko
usko bhulaaun kaise
itnaa bataa do mujhe
uska iraadaa kya hai
kuchh to bataa do mujhe
usko bhulaaun kaise
itnaa bataa do mujhe
uska iraadaa kya hai
kuchh to bataa do mujhe
jaane kyun baar baar baar
mera dil
mujhe kahe usse mil
mujhe kahe usse mil
jaane kyun baar baar baar
mera dil
mujhe kahe usse mil
mujhe kahe usse mil

Thanks Prakash ji for your comments. May be the producers also demanded S-J style music what I feel this song as.
