#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

If we look at the statistics of the movies released in the decade of seventies i.e., 1971-1980, and the total number of songs, the count as per HFGK is around eight thousand songs from 1327 movies ( including 1243 released movies+ Unreleased movies + movies in other languages of the ‘Hindi Belt’ of India).
Out of these eight thousand plus songs we have so far covered 2586 songs on the blog. That is not even near the half-way mark, and it means that we still have a long way to go to bring all the songs of this decade (1971-980) on the blog.
It would be interesting to know year-wise movies released and movies introduced on the blog, and the movies yet to be introduced on the blog. We are certainly going to have these statistics in the future posts on the blog. Till now we have done this exercise for the years ‘1971’ and ‘1972’.
We might have covered many of the popular songs of this era on the blog and there might also be many ‘surprises’ yet to come on the blog. The remaining songs from such movies i.e., the songs other than the most well-known songs yet to be posted on the blog would also have some ‘surprises’ which we are yet to listen to and enjoy.
For instance, take the case of today’s movie which is ‘Daadaa-1978’. It was one of the successful movies of ‘1979’ (I guess it was released in the theatres in end 1978 or in early 1979. It was passed by Censor Board on 30.11.1978).
Two most well-known songs from this movie which are ‘dil ke tukde tukde karke muskuraa ke chal diye’ and ‘allah karam karna maula tu reham karna’ have been posted on the blog. Ever since, this movie is waiting for its third song to appear on the blog and this wait has become more than ten years long.
Today I am presenting a song from this movie which is a beautiful reminder of the music of the ‘seventies’. I landed on this song via other song from the same movie. When I read the title of this (today’s) song it didn’t ring any bells, but when I listened to the song, I immediately recalled that I had heard this song before. This song was a popular enough song of its days.
I have vague memories of watching this movie with my parents and younger brothers. I didn’t remember this movie completely now except for few of its’ songs. But our favourites then were ‘gaddi jaandi hai chhalaangaa maar di’ and ‘allah karam karna maula tu reham karna’. I remember I didn’t like this song ‘dil ke tukde tukde karke’ then and it was very irritating to hear it on radio or around on loudspeakers. However, this song brought the ‘Filmfare’ award of ‘Best Male Playback Singer to Yesudas and it was on number ten in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala of 1979’.
“Daadaa-1978” was directed by Jugal Kishore for ‘Jugal Productions Combine, Bombay’.
Jugal Kishore was also the producer of this movie.
It had Vinod Mehra, Bindiya Goswami, Shashi Puri, Madhu Malini, Amjad Khan, Indrani Mukherjee, Jayshree T., Jeevan, Seema Deo, Ramesh Deo, Jagdeep, Rajendra Nath, Raza Murad, Satyen Kappu, Vijaya Choudhary, Mohan Choti, Maruti, Mohan Shery, Sheikh, Baby Pallavi, Coka Cola, Ramavatar, Shyam Kumar, Ratan Gaurang, Manmauji and many others.
Story of this movie was written by Dr. Hari Zutshi and screenplay was written by Aryan and Tejnath Zar.
Tejnath Zar also wrote the dialogues for this movie.
Editing of this movie was done by Y.G. Chavan.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.11.1978.
This movie had five songs- all written by five different lyricists viz. Asad Bhopali, Ravindra Jain, Kulwant Jani, Mahendra Dehalvi, Gauhar Kanpuri.
(I think that using the five separate lyricists for five songs surely paid of for this movie as all of them turned out to be good compositions).
Music for this movie was composed by Usha Khanna.
Mohd Rafi, Yesudas, Shailendra Singh, Hemlata, Dilraj Kaur, and Suman Kalyanpur had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur and is a ‘mujra’ song highly enjoyable and having a catchy tune. On screen it is Jayshree T. performing on this song and we can see Amjad Khan and Jeevan and others in the picturisation of this song.
(Incidentally I am coming across many Jayshree T. songs nowadays and have shared some of them recently on the blog 😊 )
This movie also brough a Filmfare award to Amjad Khan in the category of ‘Best Supporting actor’.
However, it was Amjad Khan’s performance which was the highlight of this movie with other ‘ingredients’ like the story, presentation of it on screen, catchy music and with screen presence of other actors like Vinod Mehra, Shashi Puri, Bindiya Goswami, Madhu Malini and others making this movie a perfect ‘blend’ of action, romance, friendship, and entertainment to watch on the big screen. And this movie ranked on number fifteen among the highest grossing Hindi movies of ‘1979’ (as per IMDB).
I am not going into the detail of the story of this movie as Atul ji and Sudhir ji has covered a lot about the movie in their write-ups while presenting the songs ‘dil ke tukde tukde karke muskuraa ke chal diye’ and ‘allah karam karna maula tu reham karna’ on the blog.
Let us now enjoy the today’s peppy number which I think is inspired from a ‘Bhojpuri song’. Lyrics for the today’s song are by Mahendra Dehalvi.
The engrossing voice in the today’s song is of Suman Kalyanpur and music is by Usha Khanna.

Heartiest Congratulations to you on reaching the First major Milestone of writing posts here.
Sometimes I feel amazed to notice your enthusiasm in writing the posts, many times one after the other. You never seem to lack material for it.
That indicates your commitment to your work. I was wondering how you took out time to write posts, in spite of having a major happy function in your own family recently !
I appreciate your involvement here and I am sure you will, in coming years, achieve more milestones.

Frankly speaking as of now I do not see the next major milestone coming for me. I have to conclude some of my ‘series’ initiated early and presently incomplete on the blog. I would like to finish them first and continue further.
I am happy that I could achieve this double of 500 posts and 500 lyrics contributions. I love this blog very much and will keep sharing my memories of HFM as possible.

Oh and I must thank you for reminding of this popular song of the 70s. I used to love the line “ek toh mahimaa Ram ki” line. Of course back then I was not bothered who the singer was. It is today that I found the singer of this song- Suman Kalyanpur.
I must also mention that I was waiting to see what your 500th post song would be.

Only few days back while browsing through the blog and going through HFGK Vol-V, I came across this song. I was not sure about doing a write-up with it. But on listening the song I remember that this was played frequently then. I listened to the song many times and then thought to present this one on the blog. 🙂
