Hullo Atuldom

I have been making mental notes for this post for sometime now. Selecting and rejecting songs as I came across more songs that fell right into the criteria that I had set for song selection.

The blog already has a song/ post authored by Avinashji to celebrate the 80th birthday of an actor who has been entertaining lovers of Hindi films since the 60s. He also has remembered the gorgeous Parveen Babi in that post. The song that he presented was from a movie which I had not seen at the time of its release in the 80s for the same reason that Avinashji couldn’t see it- not being an ‘Adult’, I have not seen “Meri Awaaz Suno” in later years as well. The song in that post was also on my list.
But not to worry as there are ‘N’ number of songs featuring this ‘new’ Octogenarian.

Let us enjoy a song which has Kishore Kumar giving playback to a ‘then’ 36 year old Jeetendra and Asha Bhonsle singing for a ‘then’ 16 or 17 year old Jaya Prada for whom this was her second Hindi movie of that year. The fun/ romantic song is written by Anand Bakshi and tuned by Laxmi-Pyare. The song was not so popular back then but don’t remember why I used to like it. In fact, I won’t surprised if the movie itself featured in the ‘never heard of this movie’ list of moviegoers.

The song is from T. Rama Rao directed, S. Venkatratnam produced 1979 release “Lok Parlok”. The movie had Jaya Prada, Jeetendra, Amjad Khan (playing a cute character), Madan Puri, Pandari Bai, Pradeep Kumar (Devraj Indra), Deven Verma (Chitragupt), Premnath (Yamraj), and Padma Khanna, Manju Bhargavi, Vijayalalitha (as Menaka, Urvashi, Rambha) and a few others playing interesting characters. The movie was almost entirely a dream sequence. It had Jeetendra (Amar) and Jaya Prada (Savitri) playing lovers and Madan Puri (Kalicharan) the thorn in their story. Kalicharan hires a killer to bump off Amar for two reasons-

(1) to keep him away from Savitri
(2) as Amar incites the locals against Kalicharan.

Only problem is that the person assigned to bump Amar turns out to be his friend and then the movie takes-off with its hilarious, out-of-this world story. I recommend the readers to see the movie at least once for some light entertainment.

Incidentally, Jaya Prada turned 60 on the 3rd of this month. “Lok Parlok” was her second Hindi movie of 1979 (release date 23rd November 1979) after “Sargam” which released in January. She was already a huge star in Telugu and Tamil movies before she tried her luck in Bollywood. She had only one problem- not being able to speak Hindi, and it is said that Naaz used to dub for her. Eventually she learnt the language and starred in many successful Bollywood films of the 80s and early 90s before turning a politician in 1995.

A thought crossed my mind as I was writing this- Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and Jeetendra were all born in 1942. Their careers ran parallel but there was never a movie which had all the three together. I am sure it would have been a visual treat; having seen movies where Rajesh Khanna & Jeetendra, Rajesh Khanna & Amitabh Bachchan and Jeetendra & Amitabh Bachchan were together. Don’t know if any filmmaker had ever thought of this combination as there were many 3-hero-movies in that period.

Wishing Jaya Prada (born Lalita Rani) and Jeetendra a very Happy Milestone birthday. May they have all health and happiness.

Song-Amma ree amma ye topiwaala (Lok Parlok)(1979) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

amma ri amma

amma ri amma
yeh topiwala
raste mein chhede
rasta na chhode

ye topiwaala
raste mein chhede
rasta na chhode

amma ri amma
amma ri amma
ye lehenge waali
peechhe padi hai
peechha na chhode hey

amma ri amma
amma ri amma

beech dagar mein
dil mera loota
beech dagar mein dil mera loota
uspe machaaya ye shor jhootha
uspe machaaya ye shor jhootha
gin gin ke loonga tumse badle
gin gin ke loonga haan
tumse main badle
shaadi mein baaki
ab din hain thhode hey

amma ri amma ye topiwaala
raste mein chhede
rasta na chhode ho

oye hoye
o o
naazuk main aisi resham ki dori
naazuk main aisi resham ki dori
zulmi kare mujhse
aaha oho
aaha oho
jora jori
baali umar mein aise balam se
baali umar mein aise balam se
kaahe ko lad gaye naina nigode
amma ri amma
ye lahange waali
peechhe padi hai
peechha na chhode ae

bas ho chuki ye jhoothhi ladaai
bas ho chuki ye jhoothhi ladaai

ab pyaar hoga
uhuh aaha
uhuh aaha
chhodo kalaai
karta hoon main bhi tumse ye waada
karta hoon main bhi haan
tumse ye waada

karti hoon main bhi tumse ye waada
usko kasam jo waada ye tode hey
amma ri amma
ye topiwaala
raste mein chhede
rasta na chhode haan
peechhe padi hai
peechha na chhode ae
