(A tribute to Lata Mangeshkar on her first ‘Remembrance Anniversary’)
Today we pay our tributes to the greatest singer of our country Late Lata Mangeshkar on her ‘first Remembrance Anniversary’ on 6 February 2023.
She passed away last year in 2022 on this day.
As a tribute to her today I am presenting a ‘lesser-heard’ song from the ‘1979’ movie ‘Aur Kaun’. I was not aware of this song anytime in the past. I was aware of the name of the movie, though which was released in my childhood and was ‘certified’ as an ‘adult movie’, thus ruling out any chances that I would be able to watch it during its first run. . As luck would have it, I never got an opportunity to watch this movie. (Watching it on Internet is the most uncomfortable thing for me so I have not tried it. May be in future if it is required I will try 🙂 ).
Recently when I was browsing the blog and I came across this movie, I noticed that only one song from this movie was posted on the blog and that too long back on 01.05.2009. This song is ‘haan pehli baar ek ladki mera haathh pakad kar….’, which no doubt is the most well-known song from this movie I guess.
At least I can say that I am familiar with this song. But when I looked for the other songs from this movie they didn’t look familiar to me. However, when I listened to the song under discussion in this post,it reminds me of couple ‘pre-Himmatwaala’ period Bappi Lahiri compositions that I had shared in the blog in the past.of songs composed by Bappi Lahiri from the ‘pre-Himmatwaala’ period and those I have shared on the blog so far, namely songs from ‘Paapi-1977’ and ‘Saboot-1980’. One common thing about these songs is that they are sung by none other than Lata Mangeshkar.
So I think this rare song (the ‘YouTube’ link say so) suits the occasion perfectly when we are paying our tributes to Lata Mangeshkar.
This is the only song that Lata Mangeshkar had sung in this movie ‘Aur Kaun-1979’.
Padmini Kapila lip syncs this “bhootiya” “gumnaam hai koi” genre of song on screen and actor Sachin, like archtypical hero of such horror films, tend to get drawn towards the source of the song and thusfalling into the trap trap.(That is my guess from watching the video of this song).
“Aur Kaun-1979” was directed by Tulsi Ramsay and Shyam Ramsay for ‘Ramsay Pictures’ or their home production.
It had Sachin, Rajni Sharma, Padmini Kapila, Roopesh Kumar, Sudhir, Vimal Sahu, Kanchan Mattu, Birbal, Om Shivpuri and others.
Madan Puri and Nazir Hussain had a friendly appearance in this movie.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 05.01.1979.
This movie had four songs (as per detail given below), which were written by Amit Khanna and composed by Bappi Lahiri.
