# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (‘Yippeeee’ Movie- Chhoti Bahu-1971)
——————————————-——————————

While discussing a song from “Aag Aur Daag”(1971) on 31 December 2022, I had mentioned that :-

We have been introducing new movies on the blog at a fair rate. Somehow in this process our other objective of ‘Yippeeee’ing’ the movies closer to their final songs have taken a back seat. With this post we once again resume this activity and start taking such movies to ‘Yippeeee-land’.

But it was, as they say, ‘easier said than done :). The ‘Yippeeee’ing’ activity somehow didn’t gather the momentum that I expecting. I had to blame myself only, because I have not been able to execute this activity in a ‘planned’ way. No issues, I am again re-starting this activity and this time I am going to make it a regular feature here 🙂 (bolne par koi ki paabandi thhode hi hai hamaare desh mein 🙂 ) …

Today’s movie is another movie waiting for a long time to join the ‘Yippeeee’ed Movies’ Club. This movie is ‘Chhoti Bahu’ of the year ‘1971’ and its penultimate song was posted in April’2022.

I had earlier drafted this post few months back but during that process I came across an article on internet and after reading this article I felt that I should watch this movie to refresh my memory and also relate what the article noted in its contents.

I remember watching this movie on TV during 1983-1985, but I had forgotten all about its story and other things.

So, I watched this movie and finished the final phase of watching it yesterday. (Watching a movie at home is a far cry from the atmosphere that one experiences at a theatre. One cannot concetrate on watching the movie in one go unlike in a theatre.).

I want to highlight what the abovementioned article is about.

The first thing that got my attention was the sub title of the article which mentioned that this movie ‘Chhoti Bahu-1971’ was based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s book ‘Bindur Chhele’. Since I had watched the movie titles I remember that they didn’t mention anything about this. And since I have great liking for ‘Bengali literature’ and movies too I read what the article said and so watched the movie too.

There is no doubt that this movie a great family drama to watch, though the new generation might find it too slow in present circumstances when lifestyle has gbecome much faster. The article also mentioned about the female character or the female protagonists that has been the highlight of most of or all Sarat Babu’s works. They are not like normal women characters but have their independent personalities, views and even grey shades.

Just before sending this post I came across another article ‘Warped Women (Chhoti Bahu)’ which is also a very nice read about this movie and its presentation of the things with the heroine of the movie being an ‘epileptic female protagonist’ and how this role is performed strongly by Sharmila Tagore in the movie.

That also reminded me what my childhood friend had said to me during our Rajesh Khanna movie watching days, that in Rajesh Khanna movies the others characters too have scope to perform and they do get their share of screen time unlike in other hero’s movies where the female roles are just for the sake of showbiz.

So, those interested in ‘family dramas’ should watch this movie and also look for good performance from Nirupa Roy, Rajesh Khanna, Tarun Bose, Shivraj, Junior Mehmood, Sarika and others.

“Chhoti Bahu-1971” was directed by K. B. Tilak for ‘Delux Productions, Bombay’. It was produced by Darius Gotla and Seeroo Daryanani. It had Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna, Nirupa Roy, Shashikala, I.S. Johar, Master Sooraj, Junior Mehmood, Tarun Bose, Shivraj, Jairaj, Satyan Kumar, Radhika Rani, Irshad Panjtan, Chandrima Bhaduri, Master Ratan, Babalal, Rashid (Jackpot), Rangnath Yadav, C.N. Reddi, Chamki, V. Jhulan Babu, Madhumati, Jayshree T., and others.

Screenplay and dialogues of this movie was written by Vishwamitra Adil. Editing of this movie was done by Venkateshwar Rao.

‘Chhoti Bahu-1971’ had six songs. Four songs were written by Indeevar whereas Kafi Azmi and Uddhav Kumar had penned one song each.
Music for this movie was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Here is the list of songs in this moviewith details of the Singers, Lyricists for the songs, and the date of songs already posted on the blog.

06 O maa meri maa tujhko dekhna hai Lata Mangeshkar Indeevar Song under discussion

As mentioned in the above table five songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. Today’s song is the last song of ‘Chhoti Bahu-1971’ to be posted on the blog.

Lyrics for this song were sent by Prakashchandra.

This song appears in the movie when ‘Satyanarayana Pooja’ is being organised at Rajesh-Sharmila’s new house and all family members, except the child ‘Gopi (Baby Sarika)’ have reached there. Gopi has been told by her aunt (Shashikala) that if he sees her mother or spoke to her, his mother will die. So Gopi is avoiding his mother for many days and he avoids attending this ‘pooja’ despite several efforts of the family members to take him there. While the ‘pooja’ ceremony is going on one side, Gopi missing his mother expresses his feeling of helplessness in this song …

This song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Indeevar is the lyricist and and music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

With this song, all the songs of ‘Chhoti Bahu-1971’ get covered on the blog !!!

YIPPEEEE!!! 🙂
