#the Decade of Fourties – 1941 – 1950 #

Today 11th February’2023 is the ‘thirty-fourth’ ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ of Poet-Lyricist Pandit Narendra Sharma.
He was born on 28th February’1913 and he passed away on 11th February’1989 at the age of seventy-five years.
As a tribute to him, here is a song from the ‘1947’ movie ‘Jail Yatra’.
“Jail Yatra-1947” (alias ‘Pilgrimage to Prison) was directed by Gajanan Jagirdar for ‘Jagirdar Productions’.
It had Jagirdar, Kamini Kaushal, Raj Kapoor, Harish, Vikram Kapoor, Badri Prasad, Sunalini, Hemavati, Dixit, Sagar, Pratima, Munawwar Khan, Ram Murti, Satyanarayan, Ramlal, Shyamlal and others.
“Jail Yatra-1947” has eight songs in it which were written by three lyricists. Sajjan peened four of them whereas Rammurti Chaturvedi and Pt Narendra Sharma penned two songs each.
Music for this movie was composed by Ninu Muzumdar.
So far, three songs from this movie have been presented on the blog. These songs had Sajjan with two songs and Rammurti with one song as lyricists.
The song under discussion is written by Pt. Narendra Sharma. This will be his first song from this movie to be presented on the blog. (Browsing for songs from this movie on ‘YouTube’ for this post gives me a feeling that all songs from this movie are now made available on internet).
I had earlier planned to present the ‘filmography’ of Pandit Narendra Sharma on this occasion, but it requires some more time for compilation and I hope to present it on the blog in near future.
Let us now listen to this song sung by a female singer. HFGK Vol-II (1941-1950) does not mention the singer’s name for this song. However the link of this song mentions the singer’s name as Nalini Mulgaonkar.
