# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Memories of Binaca Geetmala)
——————————————-———————————————

“Binaca Geetmala” was the ‘most popular’ programme on radio (or was it the only one?) during my growing years.

All music lovers and readers on this blog are surely aware of this popular programme conducted by the famous Amin Sayani ji, and nobody, those who got to listen to his voice, would ever forget his voice and his style of presenting the weekly countdown of songs.

I remember, we children used to eagerly wait for the ‘Wednesday’ evening every week to enjoy the songs and to know about the placement of our favorite songs in the musical paaydaan.

The next day there would be discussions among family members and group of friends regarding the songs featured and also those that got omitted but were liked by many of us. Such discussions would continue for the whole week till the next Wednesday arrived with new countdown of popular songs.

Our favorite songs would not always make it to the programme. Sometimes songs that people like me did not like would make it to this ‘popular list’.

Today I am presenting one such song which is from the movie ‘Apnaapan-1977’.

All music lovers are aware that this movie had this famous song ‘aadmi musaafir hai..’ sung by Rafi Saab and Lata Mangeshkar. Even the other songs from this movie are good songs and it is one of the best scores of composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal of that year ‘1977’. This particular song stood at number two in the ‘annual list of Binaca Geetmala of the year ‘1978’’.

There was one more song from this movie which was ranked at number twenty-seventh in this ‘annual list of 1978’.

Guess this song!!

No! It was not was not ‘is duniya mein jeenaa hai is duniyaa mein marnaa hai, tere dil mein jagah milee ab swarg hamen kya karnaa hai’ sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. Personally I would have preferred this song in that list.

But, the ‘recordon ki bikri’ (sale of gramophone records of the movie) and the shortaa sanghon ki raay’ (opinion of the ‘Radio listeners’ clubs) mattered 🙂 naturally!! 🙂
(waise records to poore album ke hi bike honge shaayad 🙂 )

So, today we are going to listen to this song which was more popular during those days. 🙂

(We will have a few such songs from the seventies in future posts on the blog).

“Apnaapan-1977” was directed by J. Omprakash for him home productions ‘Filmyug’. It had Jeetendra, Reena Roy, Sulakshana Pandit, Sanjeev Kumar (special appearance), Aruna Irani, Iftekhar, Raj Mehra, Pinchoo Kapoor (Guest appearance), Sudhir Dalvi, Sundar, Birbal, Master Bittoo, Kuljeet, Sheetal, Madhu Chauhan, Lata Sinha, Ranveer Raj, Sunil Dhawan, Reeta Haksar, Baby Soniya, Nivedita, Ashok Saxena and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 28.12.1977.

“Apnaapan-1977” has five songs (one song had two parts i.e. ‘aadmi musaafir hai’) written by Anand Bakshi. Music for this movie was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Here is the list of songs in this movie:-

SNo Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Somwaar ko ham miley Kishore Kumar, Sulakshana Pandit, chorus
02 Dil pe zaraa haath rakkh lo baabu Asha Bhonsle, chorus 24.01.2014
03 Aadmi musaafir hai (in two parts) Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi 01.01.2009
04 Is duniyaa mein jeenaa hai Kishore Kumar,Lata Mangeshkar
05 Main daddy se pyaar karti hoon Anuradha, Dilraj Kaur, chorus

It can been seen from the above table that two songs of this movie have so far been discussed on the blog.

Today we are going to listen to the third song from this movie. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and Sulakshana Pandit. Jeetendra and Sulakshana Pandit lip-sync this song on screen.

This is a simple song wherein the ‘two lovers’ share their ‘weekly schedule’ after their first meeting and how they missed each other the whole week and what is going to happen in the coming months of the year 🙂 . From the lyrics of the song I guess that they wish to get married in November 🙂

I have not watched this movie so I don’t know what happened to their ‘love-story’ and ‘twists’ in the story if any …

Let us enjoy this song now…

arrey chaar baje main soyaa thhaa
paanch baje uthh jaagaa
saadhe paanch ko le kar gaadi
tumse milne bhaagaa
jeewan kaise guzregaa
jab kat’te nahin pal chaar
saat dinon mein ho gaya jaise
saat janam ka pyaar
ho ho ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho ho ho

somwaar ko ham miley
mangalwaar ko nain
budh ko meri neend gayi
jummeraat ko chain
arey shukar shani kate
mushqil se
aaj hai aitwaar
saat dinon mein ho gaya

saat janam ka pyaar
ho ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho ho

abhi huyi nahin sagaayee
kaise navambar aayegaa
abhi aayaa nahin julaayi
june talak bhi hai mushqil
arey ab to intezaar

saat dinon mein pahunch gaye ham
saat samandar paar
ho ho ho o ho ho
ho ho ho o ho ho

somwaar ko ham miley
mangalwaar ko nain
budh ko meri neend gayi
jummeraat ko chain
arey shukar shani kate mushqil se
aaj hai aitwaar
saat dinon mein ho gaya jaise
saat janam ka pyaar
ho ho ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho ho ho

“Apnapan” was a movie that had the basic idea that any wife should be a ‘sati-savitri’ & ‘ghareloo’ type and should not have any ambition of her own.
The story was like this:-
Reena Roy and Jeetendra are a not-so-happily married couple who also have a child-in-arms. Jeetendra’s mother also stays with them and is in-charge of looking after the child when the parents are away. Additionally, Reena Roy has problems with the income of Jeetendra as it doesn’t allow her to live-life-queenlike. This leads to the couple separating legally.
Jeetendra shifts base. Admits his child to a boarding school in Kashmir. He tells the child that the mother is busy but will eventually visit him.
At the new place Jeetendra meets Sulakshana Pandit, falls in love and marries her. She insists on meeting the cute child & the the child instantly accepts her as his mother.
The story then brings the ex-mother and current mother together, they become friends etc. And we see the ex-mother ruing the day she left her child for a rich husband etc.
The film was marketed a sure-hit with the family audiences.

Haha…. I don’t know if I liked the movie or not. But I have seen it a few times (it keeps coming on television) hence the story has remained in my memory.
ok, I must admit I liked the songs, and the outdoor shots of Mumbai & Kashmir. But I felt that most of the actors grossly over-acted maybe Reena Roy was an exception.
