There are movies that are well made with good story line. I, who considered myself as a moviegoer with highbrow taste ( 🙂 ) liked such movies. For example, I liked movies like Sholay, Deewaar, Don etc. Then there are movies with silly story lines that low brow audiences liked but I did not.
Some of these silly story line movies went on to become big hits whereas some movies flopped.
Amitabh Bachchan movies with silly story lines included movies like “Besharam” and “Do Aur Do Paanch”. I could not tolerate “Besharam” and I left the movie hall after half time.
“Do Aur Do Paanch”(1980) had a silly story line and I left the hall at halfway stage in this movie as well. Majority of movie goers too shared my view so this movie too failed at the box office.
Not just the movie, I found the songs of this movie as equally irritating.
With passage of time, I have grudgingly started to warm up to the songs. The title song, that I found very silly has been growing up on me. I began to toy with the idea that the title song needed to be discussed in the blog on a special occasion.
Today (21 may 2025) could well be that occasion. The blog song count stands at 18999. It is time to post the song number 19000.

We note that all the 18 earlier thousandth song were very very special songs in some way or the other. Some songs were very well known, whereas some songs were so obscure that they rewrote history of HFM. For instance it was believed that the oldest HFM song whose record was made was from 1932. Song post 10000, whose song was uploaded online for the first time while publishing the post, was a song of 1931 !
“Do Aur Do Paanch”(1980) was produced by C Dhandyadupani and directed by Rakesh Kumar for Devar Films Bombay. The movie had Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, Hema Malini, Lalita Pawar, Aarti, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Sajjan, Master Bittu, Kader Khan, Jagdish Raj, Mohan Sherry, Vikas Anand, Goga Kapoor, Kirti Kumar, Yunus Parvez, T P Jain, Gurbachan, Gyandev Agnihotri, Subhash Verma etc in it. Om Prakash, Jagdeep and Ram Sethi made guest appearances in the movie.
“Do Aur Do Paanch (1980) had six songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the blog.
The song from the movie that I am steadily warming up to is the title song of the movie. By now, I have become really fond of this song. The main song is sung by Kishore Kumar with chorus. It is a very fast paced song. Only someone with the calibre of Kishore Kumar could have sung this song with such gusto. The song also has a Rajesh Roshan version for the purpose of comic relief. Initially, it was the Rajesh Roshan version of the song that I initially began to like.
When I listened to this song today in order to get the lyrics of the song, I realised that I have become a big fan of this song by now. It is a song that is bound to cheer up the listeners whenever one listens to this song. The lyrics are funny and the singing by Kishore Kumar takes the song to an altogether different plane.
Readers will notice that the one thousandth song of the blog was also a Rajesh Roshan composition that was sung by Kishore Kumar. This song, the 19000th song bring them together once again. Anjaan, the lyricist has done a great job as well.
The picturisation is equally funny. Kishore Kumar sings for Amitabh Bachchan. Rajesh Roshan sings for Shashi Kapoor.
Today is 21 May 2025. I was under the wrong impression that this date is the longest day of the year. No, that honour goes to 21 June. Nevertheless 21 may enjoys some distinction of its own. It is observed as “End of the world” day. 🙂 So, if today the world ends they we can at least have the solace that we listened to a great fun song on the occasion. 🙂
I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their support and encouragement in one way or the other which has enabled this blog to last this song (seventeen years and counting) with 19000 song posts under our belt. Let us hope that we will come across many more landmarks while this musical bandwagon chugs on and on.

Congratulations for reaching an impossible milestone of 19000 songs from 1931 to current period. I am sure there is no other such Blog on internet which has so many songs with lyrics, detailed posts and reliable, credible and genuine information concerning the song and the film and the people in the film.
Your posts, now rare, are always highly readable and informative.

Heartiest congratulations to Atulj for reaching 19000th post.
I am glad that this song has finally come on the blog. It has a Jodi which is my All Time Favorite- Amitabh bachchan with Shashi kapoor.
And, personally speaking, I found the Jodi had a good sense of timing responding to each other. There is a dialogue at the start of the film (uttered by Om Prakash I think) that calls this the Rahu-Ketu (or some such thing)
I am unable to say which version I love more- the Kishore Kumar Amitabh bachchan one or the Rajesh Roshan Shashi Kapoor one.
and finally for pointing out that the shashi kapoor version is in the voice of Rajesh Roshan (I was wondering all these years)

Though I disliked the movie and its songs, I found the Rajesh Roshan version of the song appealing in a perverse way. This song can be called a “trolling someone” song.

19,000 is indeed huge and 20,000 looks much nearer now. And, when we reach 20k, 25k will also look nearer.
Akin to Majrooh saab’s sher, the blog has definitely turned into a movement, marked with authentic and complete information about HFM.
Even though many readers do not express their views, I am sure there are many like-minded music enthusiasts out there who visit the blog often for multiple reasons.
I am aware of the lull from my side too and intend to restart contributing soon.
On to 20,000 for sure.

It is only when one has to do background maintenance on the blog that one realises that 19000 is a huge number. For that matter even 5000 (number of movies) and 1400 (number of YIPPEED movies) appear big numbers.
It is this maintenance work that is preventing me from posting my articles. Hopefully I will be able to post long and well researched articles on a regular basis.
Readers should express their views. It may take them just a few minutes but their comments serve as huge motivation to the blog contributors.
