#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
“Sher Afghan-1966” was directed by B.R. Jhingan for ‘Shankar Movietone, Bombay’. It had Prithviraj, Nishi, Premnath, Suresh, Hiralal, Maruti, Ulhas, Zeb Rahman and others.
HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970) lists six songs for this movie leaving spaces below that indicating possibility of there being more songs in the movie. Lyricist Hasrat Jaipuri wrote all the songs for this movie. Husnlal-Bhagatram composed the music.
As per information available on the blog, and as mentioned by our respected Sudhir jee,
‘as per records, this is the last film of the music director duo Husnlal Bhagatram. After this film, the two parted company, with Husnlal migrating to Delhi.
This film is the only one in which Hasrat Jaipuri has written all the lyrics for the music of this duo. They had come together earlier in the 1961 film ‘Apsara’, but in that film, there were three lyricists (GS Nepali and Qamar Jalaalabaadi, besides Hasrat), and Hasrat Jaipuri wrote just one or two songs for that film’.
This movie seems to be an obscure and forgotten movie of its time. But as usually happens with such movies they contain some good songs in them. “Sher Afghan-1966” is one such movie.
The playback singers in “Sher Afghan-1966” are Mukesh, Suman Kalyanpur, Asha Bhonsle and Minoo Puroshottam. Asha Bhonsle and Minoo Puroshottam had only song i.e. the female duet song in this movie The voice of Suman Kalyanpur featured in five songs and the voice of singer Mukesh featured in only one song in this movie. Three songs from this movie have been posted on this blog earlier.
Today I am presenting the fourth song from this movie which is in the voice of Suman Kalyanpur. The song sounds familiar but I cannot explain why it appears so. It is not a frequently played song.
Let us now listen to this ‘missing the beloved’ song of “Sher Afghan”(1966).
