Alphabetical list of actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice- Part III

(Actresses whose name begin with the letter C)

In the first episode of this series, we gave a list of actresses whose name began with A and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the posts of the blog. That post covered a song picturised on an actress whose name started with the letter A who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog till that time.

In the second episode, I gave a list of actresses whose name begins with B and who had already had songs in the blog that were sung by Asha Bhonsle and were picturised on them. Then I covered an Asha Bhonsle song picturised on an actress who did not have an Asha Bhonsle song picturised on her in the blog.

Now in the third episode of this series, we take up actresses whose name begins with C.

I realised that there are very few actresses whose name begins with C and who have lip synced in the voice of Asha Bhonsle in the blog. None of them were big name lead actresses. Here are those actresses:-

Name of Actress Asha Bhonsle Song lip synced by the actress Name of movie (year) Remarks
Actresses whose name begins with “C”
Chaand Usmaani Piya piya piya mora jiya pukaare (Baap Re Baap) Baap Re Baap (1955) 4 Asha Bhonsle songs featuring Chaand Usmaani are available in the blog
Cuckkoo Gaalon Pe Goree tere rangat nayee nayee hai(Maai Baap) (1957) (Maai Baap) (1957) 8 Asha Bhonsle song lip synced by Cuckkoo are avilable in the blog
Chitra Aayi deewaali aayi kaise ujaale laayi (Khazaanchi) Khazaanchi (1958) 11 Asha Bhonsle songs featuring Chitra are available in the blog
Chaand Burque Taaron ko dil ki baat sunaayee (Boot Polish) Boot Polishi (1953) This is the only Asha Bhonsle song featuring Chaand Burque available in the blog
Chanchal Babu aana sunte jaana (Jhumroo) Jhumru (1961) 8 Asha Bhonsle songs featuring Chanchal (sister of Madhubala) are available in the blog

One can notice that there are very few actresses whose names begin with C. One can guess that C is not a preferred letter of the Alphabet to name females in India.

When it was time to locate another actress (apart from the above five) whose name begins with C and who has lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice, I was all at sea. Thankfully, Pamir Harvey, who had taken a big liking for this series came to my rescue. He suggested the name of Chandrakala. Now who is Chandrakala ? She is a Telugu movie actress of 1970s and one of her hit movie was dubbed into Hindi as “Return of Johny”(1972). He suggested a Rafi Asha Bhonsle duet of this movie which is picturised on Sohan Babu and Chandrakala.

Incidentally, one song of “Return of Johny”(1972) is already showcased in the blog. That song was sung by Asha Bhonsle. So this song could well have been picturised on Chandrakala and that renders Chandrakala ineligible for this post. But the video of that song is not available, and that gives Chandrakala a lifeline and she just survives from becoming ineligible to figure in this post . 🙂

“Return of Johny”(1972) was a dubbed version of Telugu hit movie “Killadi Bullodu”(1972). It was directed by N Ramnesh for Mukesh enterprises, Madras and released by Chitrakala films. The movie had Chandrakala, Shobhan, Jyotilakshmi, Raja, Nagmani etc in it.

“Return of Johny”(1972) had six songs in it. All six songs had the voice of Asha Bhonsle in them. Four of the songs of solo songs of Asha Bhonsle whereas the remaining two songs were Rafi-Asha Bhonsle duets. Only audio of most songs are available. Video is available for only one of the songs (as of now) and that is the song that is being covered in this post.

So here is this song sung by Asha Bhonsle which is lip synced by Chandrakala. Rafi is the other singer and he sings for Sohan Babu. S R Saaz is the lyricist. Music is composed by N Datta.

With this song, the letter C is done and dusted. The next letter of the alphabet is now D. This letter too has very few actresses. But I have managed to locate an actress eligible to figure in the next episode of this series.

For now, here is this song from “Return of Johny”(1972). S R Saaz is the lyricist. Music is composed by N Datta.

Song-Oh my lovely darling (Return of Johny)(1972) Singers-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyricist-S RSaaz, MD-N Datta

Lyrics

O my lovely darling
let me tell you something
hmm hmm
hmm
ye surkh honth aise hain jaise
chhalakta hua aa
paimaana

o my lovely darling
let me tell you something

hmm
hmm
aankhen tumhaaree aisee jaise
bahakta hua aa
maikhaana
o my lovely darling

mar jaayenge

rah ke door tumse hum
sach maano
mere sanam
aag yahaan bhee naheen kam

aaj se hum tum ek hain donon
jalne do sajnee ee
ye zamaana
o my lovely darling
let me tell you something
o my lovely darling

jeevan bhar
tan man pe
pyaar mein tere bandh gaye hum

bhoolenge
sach maano
hum na kabhee
tera karam
jaane tamanna
tum miley jab se
aa gaya mujhko o o
muskaana
o my lovely darling
let me tell you something
o my lovely darling

mastee bhara ye mausam
gaata hai pyaar kee sargam
wo dekho
kitna madhur
dhartee gagan ka sangam

ab to jeevan ka har palchhin
aur bhee ho gaya aa
suhaana
o my lovely darling
let me tell you something

I have been looking very much forward to the C-supplement of the series. As the days passed, I hoped that you had found another actress with actress, whose name begins with C.
The next alphabet which comes and has a dearth of female names in India is E. I could come up with only Esha Deol and I couldn’t find any songs sung by Asha Bhosle for her. But right now I am very curious and looking forward to your post which actresses you come up for D.

Thanks for your comment. I was very lucky to find this D actress. Then I started worrying about E actress. Even there I managed to find one name from a dubbed movie. So songs and actresses with next two letters are identified. It is the subsequent letters F and G where I am stuck at the moment.

Since I didn’t know the songs given in the above lists I looked them up. The songs attributed to Cuckoo and Chand Usmani don’t really feature them. In the song from Barati (1954) it is Peace Kanwal who moves her lips to the song. For me the famous song sung by Asha Bhosle for Chand Usmani is piyaa piyaa piyaa meraa jiyaa pukaare from Baap Re Baap (1954). Then there is this Asha Bhosle solo, which I can’t recollect right now. All I remember is that it is a O. P. Nayyar composition from a lesser known movie from the later 60s and quite a famous one at that.

The song from Phagun (1958) is lip-synced by Madhubala and as far as I can see it, the second actress, who comes late in the scene is also not Cuckoo. The only song, which I found where Asha Bhosle sang for Cuckoo is from Mai Baap (1957) galo pe tere gori. Asha Bhosle sings for both Cuckoo and Shyama in this song. In the duet from Chalti Ka Naam Gadi (1958), I think it is Sudha Malhotra who sings for Cuckoo and Asha gives her voice to Helen. You have written that $ (I presume 4 is meant here) songs sung by Asha Bhosle for Cuckoo are covered on this blog. So I am sure one of them must be having Asha singing for Cuckoo.

Thanks for pointing out the errors. I have now updated the table.

asha bhosle sings for Chand Usmani in 1966 mohabbat zindagi Hai….”raaton ko chori chori boley mora kangna”

That is the song. Thanks for unearthing it. It used to play quite often on radio, but I never paid attention to the name of the movie. Few years back it popped up in my yt feed and as usual I promptly forgot it. Now if I forget it again, which I am sure of, I know where to search for it.

Chandrakala was a Kannada actress of the 60s and 70s. Acted in all the South Indian language movies with most of the prominent heroes of the time. Has acted in several Hindi and one Bhojpuri movie as well.

Her father was a prominent producer and she had also produced a few movies. She debuted as a child actress, interestingly in the Hindi movie SHOLA AUR SHABNAM, 1961 as the younger version of the heroine and we can see her in the popular song Jeet hi lenge baazi hum tum. One of her most popular roles in Kannada movies was as the sister in ONDE BALLIYA HOOGALU ( ಒಂದೇ ಬಳ್ಳಿಯ ಹೂಗಳು, meaning Flowers of the same plant ), the remake of CHOTI BEHEN , the only Kannada movie for which Rafi has sung a soulful song under the music director Satyam… ನೀನೆಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆವೆ ದೂರ ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲೂ ಲೋಕವೇ…. ( Ye kaisa nyay tera by Lata was used in CHOTI BEHEN for this situation. )

Hullo Atulji

Just remembered that there was an actress in Bengali films- Chaya Devi. I recall her from “Rang Birangi”.

Has Asha Bhosle sung for her in Hindi I am sure Asha Bhosle may have sung for Chaya Devi in Bengali films.

Like

There is indeed a song filmed on her in Rang Birangi (1983) o mriganayanee chandramukhee, whose playback has been given by Vasantrao Deshpande for Om Prakash and Faiyaz for Chhaya Devi.
Rang Birangi along with Kitaab (1977) seems to be one of the rare albums of R. D. Burman, where he did without the vocals of the Mangeshkar sisters and other prominent playback singers.

Like

Thank you for pointing that Rang Birangi & Kiraab don’t have any songs by the Mangeshkar sisters.

I did find that Asha Bhonsle has sung for Chaya Devi in Bengali
