Moving ahead with the series on Asha Bhosle singing for actresses whose first names begin with the letter “A”, we come to Ashima Bhalla.
Ashima Bhalla, as is the case with many Hindi film actresses, comes from a military background on her paternal side. She acted in only a few Hindi films, and the total number of films in her career was not very large either. She made her debut in the Hindi film Pyaar Zindagi Hai (2001). In the same year, she also appeared in the Telugu film Daddy. Later, she went on to act in Tamil and Kannada films as well. Over time, she shifted her focus increasingly towards television serials.
The song “Nazar Nazar Mein Haal-E-Dil” is from Ashima Bhalla’s third Hindi film, Hathyar (2002). Asha Bhosle sings for Ashima Bhalla and Shilpa Shetty. Mohammed Salamat sings a few lines for Sunjay Dutt. Ashima Bhalla appears only in a guest role in the film, a type of guest appearance that had become quite fashionable around the turn of the century in Hindi films and was called an “item number”. In the song, Ashima Bhalla is seen dancing on the disco floor of a bar while Sanjay Dutt and his associates watch her. As he watches her dance, Sanjay Dutt is reminded of the happy and romantic days he spent with Shilpa Shetty, who plays his estranged wife in the film. The camera then shifts from the bar to a cliff by the sea. Suddenly, his reverie is broken and his attention returns to the bar. As viewers, we are astonished to discover that, in the meantime, the dancers have changed their attire and Ashima Bhalla is being unceremoniously thrown onto the floor, where she lands with a thud. What comes as a shock to the audience appears to leave the onlookers within the film completely unaffected. The dancer sings a few lines, and the song comes to an end.
There is indeed some resemblance between the facial features of Ashima Bhalla and Shilpa Shetty, which is why Ashima Bhalla was often described as a “Shilpa Shetty look alike.”
With this song the movie Hathyar (2002) as well as Ashima Bhalla make their debut on this blog.
