Dil mein ho tum aankhon mein tum

on:“Satyamev Jayate” (1987), a remake of a Malyalam movie, was produced by Romu N Sippy and directed by Raj Sippy. The movie had Vinod Khanna, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Madhavi, Anita Raj, A K Hangal, Renu Joshi, Alankar, Neeta Puri, Saahil Chadha, Satyen Kappu, Sudhir Dalvi, Vinod Mehra, Shakti Kapoor, Anupam Kher etc in it.
Here is a song from “Satyamev Jayate” (1987). I have heard this song, and I may have even watched the movie, but I was not aware till now that this song belonged to this movie. The reason being, the era from 1980 till today is a blindspot for me and my knowledge about the Hindi movie music of this period is negligible. A few days ago I was asked to name the movie of song that was being played and I drew a blank. That song happened to be a popular song of today and that was from “Dabangg II”, I was informed.
Coming back to this song from “Satryamev Jayate” (1987), it is sung by Asha BhonsleS Janaki and it is picturised on Anita Raj and Vinod Khanna. Farooque Kaiser is the lyricist. Music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Lyrics(Provided by Peevesie’s mom)
Dil mein ho tum
aankhon mein tum
bolo tumhe kaise chaahoon
dil mein Ho tum aankhon mein tum
bolo tumhe kaise chaahoon
pooja karoon sajda karoon
jaise kaho waise chaahoon
Jaanoo
mere jaanoo
jaane jaana jaanoo
tumhaara saath mila hai
zara main dil ko sambhaaloon
zazar lage na kahin meri
tumhe main dil mein chupaa loon
tumhaara saath mila hai
zara main dil ko sambhaaloon
zazar lage na kahin meri
tumhe main dil mein chupaa loon
zulfein meri palken meri
karti rahen tum pe chhaaon
Jaanoo
mere jaanoo
jaane jaana jaanoo
suhaane sapne dikhaaye
Hamaare naina deewaane
galey se ab to laga lo
milan ke aaye zamaane
suhaane sapne dikhaaye
hamaare naina deewaane
galey se ab to laga lo
milan ke aaye zamaane
hardum yehi darr hai mujhe
unse juda ho na jaaun
dil mein ho tum aankhon mein tum
bolo tumhe kaise chaahoon
pooja karoon sajda karoon
jaise kaho waise chaahoon
Jaanoo
mere jaanoo
jaane jaana jaanoo

Atul ji
This song is one of my all time favourite that`s why I can say that
This is not a Asha bhosle sung song,S.JANAKI, mainly sung this song and in between only 2 lines of alaapan sung by Bappi lahiri. And a seperate Bappi Lahiri Solo version of this song exists.
And a Bengali version of this song must be there in a Bengali Movie having lyrics “Chirodini or something” composed by Bappi Lahiri himself.

The voice is definitely not of Asha Bhonsle. In fact her name does not appear in the credit title of the film.
Prakashchandra is right. There is male version of this song sung by Bappi Lahiri.of which only the audio clip is available. My hunch is that his version may be appearing in the film as a background song on more than one occasion. The lyrics of the antaras of the male version are different than the female version.

So much like Asha. She could have given Asha run for her money. I still feel it is Asha.

O.P.Nayyar told in a Vividhbharthi radio interview that S.Janaki is a singer of International standard, only that she lacks in her South Indian accent.

No no,it is not sung by Asha ji
Its sung seperately by South Indian legend S.Janaki and Bappi Lahiri. And a seperate Bappi Lahiri Solo Version also must be there.
