Alphabetical list of actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice- Part IX
(Actresses whose name begin with the letter I)
In the first eight episodes of the series, we listed actresses whose names begin with the first eight letters of the alphabet and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. They we went on to cover a song that was lip synced by another acresses whose name began with the same letter and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.
We managed to find “new” actresses (whose name begin with the first eight letters of the alphabet) lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice for the first time in the blog. They were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya, Chandrakala, Divya Bharati, Ekta, Farheen, Gulnar Irani and Harsha Mehra.
The next letter of the alphabet is I. Like the previous few letters of the alphabet, this letter I too has very few actresses. Moreover names of these actresses may not ring to many bells in the minds of most music lovers.
I could find only only two actresses in the blog whose name begins with the letter I and who have lip synced in the blog in the voice of Asha Bhonsle. After this post was published, it was pointed out by Pamir Harvey that there was a third actress too. Here are these three actresses:-

This letter I has thrown the least number of actresses in Hindi movies who lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. Ironically, names of females beginning with the letter I is rather more common that female names beginning with the letter E and F. But there were few actresses whose names began with I who made it big in Hindi movies.
When I started thinking about acresses whose name begin with I and who are not yet represented in the blog then the only name that occurred to me was Isha Koppikar. I tried to find out but could not find any songs sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Isha Koppikar. The information available online suggests that she made her debut in Hindi movies in 2001. By that time Asha Bhonsle rarely sang songs in Hindi movies.
That is when you need the help of experts. Our inhouse expert Prakashchandra came up with this one song which fitted the bill. This song is from “Company”(2002). This movie was directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The movie had Mohanlal, Ajag Devgan,Vivek Oberoi, Manisha Koirala, Antara Mali, Seema Biswas, Akash Khurana, Vijay Raaz,Rajpal Yadav, Shabbir Masani,Neeraj Vora, Ashraful Haq,Pankaj Jha,Harsh Chhaaya, Mukul Nag,Rajesh Tandon,Rajendra Sethi,Madan Joshi,Bharat Dabholkar,Ganesh Yadav, Akshay Verma, Mukesh Bhatt etc. The movie had two item numbers, in which Isha Koppikar and Urmila Matondkar respectively had appeared in guest appearances.
Here is this item number of “Company”(2002), which is picturised on Isha Koppikar and others (whom I have been unable to identify). The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Sudesh Bhonsle and Sapna Awasthi. Nitin Raikwar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sandeep Chowtha.
This song, which I became aware of only just now, was the most popular song of this movie. In fact, this song was immensely popular during those days, which was the time by which my filmy blackout had begun which would last for more than a decade and a half.
Sadanand Kamath jee, who is also introducing “new” actresses lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice had discovered this song and realising the scarcity of actresses whose name start with I and who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice, he too had sent me the link of this song.
This is the only Asha Bhonsle song that Isha Koppikar lip synced in her career. This one song established her as an item girl in Hindi movies. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the other actors who lip sync in the song in the other two voices.
With the letter I done, next episode will take up an actress with the letter J. The blog has as many as thirteen actresses whose names begin with J and who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. So J is a popular name of females in India as well as for actresses in Hindi movies. And as in the past, I am well placed to bring the next episode of this series secure in the knowledge that I already have the name of the actress and the song available with me.

Glad to see the ‘I‘ instalment of the Asha Bhosle series and glad to have you back, Atulji. I was a bit astonished to see in the post that there are no Indira Bansal songs. I just had presumed that there will be many Indira Bansal songs although I couldn’t remember any at the moment. After reading the post I went to search for some Indira Bansal songs and I couldn’t find any.
Today, then I thought I should search earnestly and spent the last 2-3 hours searching and then I looked at her filmography. In most of them she had minor roles with no songs. Chand Ki Duniya (1959) was a good find on two points at least. It seems to me to be the first sci-fi film in Hindi. I looked at the songs and was happy to see so many Asha Bhosle songs in it, but unfortunately none of them filmed on Indira Bansal. Moreover the print was bad to discern any faces on it. Then after lots of searching I came upon this song from Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya (1963) with Waheeda Rehman, Vijay Kumar and Nirupa Roy. It seems to be that the engagement or wedding of the lead pair is being celebrated and qawaali singers played by Tun Tun and Indira Bansal have been invited. Shamshad Begum lends her vocals to Tun Tun, while Indira Bansal moves her lips to Asha Bhosle’s voice. There are more ladies in the song, who also move their lips to both of the singer’s vocals. I am also glad for this post, because although I had heard about Indira Billi, I never really knew or remembered how she looked. Now I know.
Company is a film, which I have seen and appreciated, but I couldn’t remember this song, but when I heard it, I remembered that it was quite popular in its time. Thank you for the post, it made for some interesting research.
