Hullo Atuldom

“Jaana Pehchana” (Well-known), is a 2011 Indian film directed by Sachin Pilgaonkar and produced by Rajshri Productions. The film stars Sachin Pilgaonkar and Ranjeeta in leads. It was said to be a sequel to the 1978 film “Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se”. The screenplay was also by Sachin Pilgaonkar (known simply as Sachin). The lyrics and music are by Ravindra Jain. Kavitha Seth, Javed Ali, Sadhana Sargam and Sachin (himself) were the voices used in the six songs.

“The film traces the life of Arun Mathur, who is living a wealthy but depressed lifestyle due to death of his love Lily. After 33 years, Arun is now running a cancer hospital in Lily’s name. Things turn upside down when Arun meets Lily’s lookalike Asha. After observing Arun’s loneliness, she decides to write Arun’s biography and wants to get it published. Arun starts falling in love with Asha after the narration of his story. But Arun was not ready to marry Asha as he didn’t want anyone in his life except Lily. But one night Arun wakes up from his sleep and sees Lily’s soul in front of him, who then convinces Arun to marry Asha. The next day, Asha’s book, which she wrote on Arun’s life was published with the name “Ankhiyon ke Jharoko se”. There Arun proposes Asha for marriage which she accepts happily. The film ends with Arun and Asha walking together and lived a happy life thereafter.”

I have only heard of this film, not seen this. Hence, I have relied on online sources for the plot of the film.

Ranjeeta Kaur played Asha (Lily in the flashback scenes). Sachin reprised his character of Arun Mathur from the 1978 film and so did Birbal & Junior Mehmood; Sachin’s friends Gopal Chandra Haathi & Madan Agarwal.
Mohammed Naim Sayed, who is/was famous among followers of Hindi films as Junior Mehmood, and Sachin were famous child actors of the 1960s. Jr. Mehmood acted in ‘Mohabbat Zindagi Hai’ (1966 release) & Sachin began acting at the age of four when he appeared in a Marathi film in 1961. I think the 1st time the two actors together was in the 1968 release ‘Brahmachari’. Following that they went on to act in about 15 films as child actors. ‘Jaan-E-Bahaar’ & ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se’ were one of the 1st films they acted together as grownups. Of course, individually, Sachin’s 1st film as a grownup was ‘Geet Gaata Chal’ camein 1975 when he was barely 18. He was also part of the supporting cast of ‘Sholay’ which was also a 1975 release (51 years ago )

Sachin turned a director with the Marathi film ‘Mai Baap’ (1982) and followed it up with the commercially successful ‘Navri Mile Navryala’ (1984) with Ashok Saraf, Laxmikant Berde, Mahesh Kothare and Supriya Sabnis as part of the main cast. He went on to marry Supriya in 1985. Incidentally, it was Supriya’s birthday yesterday (on 16th August) and Sachin is celebrating his birthday today i.e. 17th August. He is within touching distance of 70.
I am sure that the readers would have guessed my reason for choosing & introducing “Jaana Pehchana” on the blog today. It was a Sachin directed in Hindi film. He has also directed a few serials for television with Rita Bhadhuri, Reema Lagoo etc. If my memory is right, he has directed even Dara Singh in a tv serial in 1998-99.

Many of the Marathi films directed by Sachin had Ashok Saraf, Laxmikant Berde & Mahesh Kothare in the cast.

Today, on the occasion of Sachin’s 69th birthday we shall have a song sung by Sachin. It seems Ravindra Jain had used the tune of this song’s mukhda earlier in the background score for “Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se” (1978). The tune was used for the theme played during Sachin and Ranjeeta’s dance sequence on Christmas night.

Song-Hairatzada hoon main (Jaana Pehchaana)(2011) Singer-Sachin, Lyricist-Ravindra Jain, MD-Ravindra Jain
Chorus

Lyrics(Based on audio link):

hairat zada hoon main
kya dekhta hoon main
jaana hua
pehchaana hua
ye kaun aa gaya
waisa hi rang hai
waisa hee roop hai
dekha hua
samjha hua
ye kaun aa gaya

barson se jis dilruba kee
tasveer dil mein sajee
moorat hai ye usee ke
saanche mein dhalee
jispe fida hoon main
jise poojta hoon main
lekar yahaan
phir uskee adaa
ye kaun aa gaya

ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho
ho ho ho ho

uskee khushboo hawaaon mein bikhree
uskee garmee hai maahaul mein
do dil yaheen pe bandhe thhe
wafa ke khol mein
manjar saje saje
mujhse ye poochhte
lekar tujhe
phir is jagah
ye kaun aa gaya
hairat zada hoon main
kya dekhta hoon main
jaana hua
pehchaana hua
ye kaun aa gaya

I didn’t know there was a sort of sequel to AKJS. That movie was a huge hit. After our final exam in College, most of my classmates celebrated by watching this movie. I’ll try and see if I can find it somewhere.
Nice post.

The sequel had a limited-screen release. Critics gave it low rating and there was no word of mouth-publicity. Critics said “Film is new but content is old. It was well-made & well-enacted, but no commercial prospects”
There were a few movies in that period where Sachin played the role of father with a grownup daughter in “Aisi Bhi Kya Jaldi Hai”
