Pancham’s Music – Eighties-to-Nineties (1981-1994…) Duets-14
With this presentation I resume the journey of ‘Pancham’s music’ – the duet songs he composed in the decade of eighties and further till his last release after his passing away in 1994.
In this post we have a duet song composed by Pancham for the 1981 movie ‘Biwi O Biwi’. This was a Comedy movie. It was directed by Rahul Rawail for R.K. Films, Bombay. The cast of this movie has Sanjeev Kumar, Randheer Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Yogita Bali, Simmi Grewal, Rajendra Nath, Dina Pathak, Prema Narayan, Shashikala, A.K. Hangal, Dulari, Hari Shivdasani, Jagdish Raj, Sunder, Bhagwan, Kamaldeep, Vishva Mehra, Anu Dhawan, Gautam Sarin and others. Deven Verma had a guest appearance in this movie.
‘Biwi-O-Biwi’ (1981) has seven songs composed by Rahul Dev Burman. Nida Fazli wrote lyrics for five songs and lyrics for two songs were written by Vithhalbhai Patel. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 15.05.1981.
I was about thirteen years old when this movie was released. Educational year 1981-1982 was the year of standard ninth for me. I did not watched this movie at that time. I have not watched it even afterwards. However I recall listening to the songs ‘goree ho kaalee ho’, ‘waqt se pehle kismat se zyaadaa’, ‘sadiyon se duniyaa mein’ and ‘paise kaa khel niraalaa’ that were frequently played on on radio those days.
Two songs from this movie have been posted on this blog. Today I am presenting a lesser heard but a nice hummable romantic duet song from this movie which is in the voice of Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. The song is picturised on Poonam Dhillon and Randheer Kapoor. The locations shown in the picturisation of this song appears familiar. My guess is that the the same locations were used in the songs of ‘Ye Vaadaa Rahaa-1982’ as well.
Let us have a look at the present status of the movies passed by Censor Board in 1981 that had music composed by R.D. Burman.

From the above list we can notice that 1981 was a great year for Pancham as he delivered some of his very best music in many of the above mentioned movies.
The song ‘waqt se pahle qismat se zyaadaa’ from “Biwi O Biwi”(1981) was at ‘paaydaan’ no. 29 in the annual Binaca Geetmala of the year 1981.
