“Paapi”(1953) was directed by Chandulal Shah for Ranjit Movietone, Bombay. The movie had Raj Kapoor and Nargis in lead roles, with Raj Kapoor playing a double role. The movie also had Dulaari, P Kailash, Maruti, Ramesh Thakur, Amarnath, Mehar Banu, Shrawan Kumar, Butaram Sharma etc in it.

“Night Club”(1958) was directed by Naresh Sahgal for Verma Pictures, Bombay. This movie was a suspense movie though it is erroneously described as a social movie by HFGK.. It had Ashok Kumar, Kamini Kaushal, Mubarak, Nishi, Maruti,Dhumal, Gope, Helen, S Nazir, Satish, Mahinder, Ifthhikar, Rammohan, Jamal, Inderjit, Narbada Shankar, Brahm Anand etc in it.

Asha ji, one of the leading lady playback singers in Indian cinema, turns 83 today. Seventy of thes 83 years have been spent in an active career, probably the longest such accomplishment by a playback singer. Recently, on my request a collector friend of mine sent me four Asha’s song from 1971 film ‘Ek Thi Reeta’. Out of eleven songs from that film five are already covered in this musical blog. One by one, I will try to submit (Hari Ichchha permitting) these four Asha’s songs for posting starting from today. After that we will be short of two songs, which I still do not have.

OONCHI HAVELI (1955) was produced under the banner of Sharad Productions and it was directed by Dhirubhai Desai. The star cast included Karan Diwan, Nirupa Roy, Lalita Pawar, B M Vyas, Yashodara Katju, Bhagwan, Janakidas, Indira Bansal, Heera Sawant, Niranjan Sharma etc. The film appears to be an obscure one as no other details are available. From the title of the film as well as a few still photographs of the scenes from the film, the story looks to be about the conflict between a royal family and a commoner.
