Today’s song is from Safar-46. It was a Filmistan presentation which was the first film of C.Ramchandra in this company.
C.Ramchandra had worked in Jayant Desai Productions for the previous three years. He gave 5 jubilee films, Bhaktaraj-43,Zabaan-43, Manorama-44, Lalkaar-44, and Samrat Chandragupta-45 for this production house. He was getting only Rs.300 as salary. He had got married and needed more money now.

Today I had originally lined up another song from the early 50s, to continue with my discussions on the melodies of the decade, which I called ” Melody Yatra of the 50s ” sometime back. However, I changed my mind and considering the oncoming Deepavali, I am discussing a beautiful song ( both to listen and see) from the film ” RAM RAJYA “-43.

Readers from Gujarat must have heard the name of Shri Rajanikumar Pandya ji, a famous writer and winner of five awards from Sahitya Academy of Gujarat. One of the several books he has written on film people is “Aap ki Parchhaainyaan “.( He had gifted me this book). This book contains information derived from his personal interactions with several film greats like Nargis, Talat, Shamshad, Mubarak Begum, Jaikishen, Mukesh, Rafi, Composers Kalyan ji – Anand ji, Naushad, Anil Biswas, Hemant Kumar, Kavi Pradeep and a few more. In this book he has devoted 30 pages for his personal experiences with Jagmohan Sursagar ( Jaganmoy Mitra ). This is about the period close to two years when Jagmohan first stayed in his house and later elsewhere in Ahmmedabad. Jagmohan had already retired by that time and he was a devastated person due to the demise of his mother and wife in a span of a few months.

Every day, there is a song that comes to mind, or a song that someone reminds me of, or a ‘new’ old song that I get to hear – a song that is not yet on the blog, or maybe not yet online even. There is an immediate urge, a rush to sit down at my desk and finger type a new post on my laptop. And also upload it online, if need be. Many a time I even start it. The melody continues to hum in the mind. A sad event that did not seem to gather much attention, occurred on Tuesday, 29th December, 2015. Legendary singer Subir Sen breathed his last in Calcutta (Kolkata). He was 81-years-old. The lovers of film music will remember him for his renditions in many Hindi and Bangla films.
