‘Sindbaad The Sailor” (1952), also known as ‘Sindbaad Jahaazi’ was produced by Balwant Bhatt under the banner of Deepak Pictures and was directed by his brother, Nanabhai Bhatt. The cast included Naseem Bano, Ranjan, Nirupa Roy, Pran, Jayant, Bhagwan, Yashodhara Katju, Samson, etc. In some places including the poster of the film, Sindbaad is written/printed as ‘Sinbad’. The Arabic name is ‘Sindibaadu’. So, using the title of the film as ‘Sindbaad The Sailor/Sindbaad Jahaazi’ seems appropriate.

Today’s song is from the Mythological film Laxmi Narayan (1951).

Are you a believer in God ? Well I am. I am a confirmed Theist. I am also a religious person. It is surely not because I have become an old man now, but right from my childhood, I have been a religious person. The atmosphere in our joint family was very conducive to follow the religious path and ways, because of my grandfather and father. Both were experts in Sanskrit. My father had worked as a practicing PANDA (पंडा ) in Kashi (Banares), when he went underground after the Gandhi killing, in 1948-49. So, it is not the case that old age made me Religious like in the proverb ” सौ चूहे खा कर बिल्ली चली हज को ” !

Today’s song is from the film ‘Mala The Mighty’ (1948).

When I had first heard the name of this film, I wondered how ‘Mala’- a girl can be mighty ? I could never imagine that Mala could be a male’s name too. It was only after I grew up and toured the Eastern India (read W.B.) for official work, I came across this strange phenomenon – where, what is considered as an exclusive feminine name in the rest of India, could be a male’s name too ! Names like Mrinal, Vimal, Kamal, Jyoti, Mridul, Daya, Champavati, Devki, Dwaraka, Hiran etc. India truely is unique !

Today’s song is from the film Naya Raasta-1953.

Human nature is basically the same all over the world. There are some emotions and likes, common to all people everywhere in the world. Irrespective of Caste, Creed, Religion or Language, certain wishes are common all over the world. One of these likes, emotions or wishes is the Human Curiosity, anxiety and craze for things which are NEW. Be it Fashion, Books, Films, Food or a Gift, the very word NEW evokes common emotions all over the Human race !

Hullo to all in Atuldom

Round up of 2019

An eventful year comes to a close. I have had great experiences that will bring a smile on my face when I think of them or look at the related pictures.

First- my daughter gave me a promotion and I enjoyed every minute of the event. Only feeling at the end of it was— having waited for it from last July, when she announced her intention, I felt January came too soon and the week, with happenings related to the event, was over with the blessings of the elders of the family and good wishes of friends and relatives. And I must thank the Atulites too who came for it.
