“Chaalis Baba Ek Chor” (1954) is a movie about which every internet site claims to have all the information, but when one visits there, one finds hardly anything of substance. From the little available information, it would seem that Kamini Kaushal was definitely there in this movie. 😀 And then people like Omprakash, Balraj Sahni etc may also have been there in this movie.

“Panghat” (1943) is a Prakash Pictures production. It was directed by K J Parmar and Mahesh Chandra. It had actors like Umakant, Ratnamala, Jeewan, Sushil Kumar, Raj Kumari, Shukul, Chiman Seth etc in it. There is not much information available on this movie on internet and much of the information (including what is available on imdb) is misleading and incorrect. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie.

aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai
aaj phir marne ka irada hai

No better words to express the exuberance and the playfulness of a liberated spirit. A poet’s dream and life’s illustration in reality, all anxieties and caution thrown to the winds and the desires to live the life the way it should be. These words from the pen of Shailendra, and numerous other such gems, of all moods and flavors, embellish the Hindi film screen for 160+ films across two decades. A poet par excellence, Shailendra was a rebel spirit meshed in a romantic mould, whose understanding and expression of human emotions and situations is second to none.

Think of a music director from Punjab, preparing music for a film whose story is set in Bombay. And one of the songs is based on the local folk dance of Maharashtra. And guess what you will get? A Lavani based song spiced with exclamations of ‘haishaa’. And if you don’t believe me, well just go ahead and listen to this wonderful folk dance song from the 1957 film Miss Bombay. (NOTE: ‘haishaa’ is an exclamation that is used often in Punjabi folk songs.).

The film Luteraa (1965) has seven wonderful songs, five of which are already discussed on this blog. This is the sixth song from this movie. This is a dance number by Helen, and the singing voice is that of Lata Mangeshkar. Luteraa is a grade B pirates adventure story, starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Dara Singh, Nishi, Helen, Hiralal, Jeevan, Maruti, Bela Bose and others. The storyline is convoluted with multiple parallel threads in progress. There are lost siblings, pirates, palace intrigues, battles at sea and what else not in the story plot.
