For music lovers of radio era, wednesday night used to be the most important night of the week. 🙂 It was on wednesday nights that all music lovers would tune to Radio Ceylon (later Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation) from 8 P M to 9 P M. Listening to the magical voice of Amin Sayani telling us about the songs in the various “paaydaan” used to be a divine experience. It was not a good idea for visitors to arrive at the households of music lovers at those hours on wednesdays. 🙂

Regulars may have noticed that posting of songs had slowed down considerably towards the end of 2014. Then it picked up considerbly in January 2015 (josh of new year resolution 🙂 ). The rate of posting of songs in february 2015 is somewhat slower compared to january.

Today (11 february 2015) is the birth anniversary of Tina Munim , now Tina Ambani (DoB 11 february 1957). It appears as if it was only yesterday that she made her debut in “Des Pardes”(1978). But it turns out that 37 years have passed since !

“Darling Darling”(1977), which was released in 1977, is a recent movie by the standards of this movie, but it sank without a trace. The movie is by now regarded as an obscure movie.

Today (5 january 2014) is the 33rd death anniversary of C Ramchandra (12 january 1918-5 january 1982). He was one of the earlier pioneers of HFM and his contributions in enriching and adding variety to it is second to none. He one one the earlier music directors to adopt western music in HFM. And at the same time, he also composed songs based on folk music as well as those based on classical music. And he was a decent singer as well who sang over one hundred songs as a playback singer. And he could deliver under very tight schedules. He composed all the songs of “Aazaad” (1955) in just a few days and that too without compromising on their quality.

With a persona like Dev Sb, the length of years behind was as meaningless as the number of years ahead of him were meaningful. The zest for life and the energy to be – the age and years did not matter. The only thing that mattered was the young-ness of the mind that simply refused to be afraid of the towering Time that overcomes all. Not that he professed any eternal life. And neither did he survive the scythe of reaper of time. But the time and the years that he lived and breathed, there was always another horizon to reach, always another mountain to scale. And the mantra for life simply was – young-ness of the mind.

Today is the Death Anniversary of DEV ANAND.
He was one of those who can never be forgotten. He was the most handsome of the three great heroes of India, Raj, Dilip and Dev. Raj and Dilip grew old, did grandpa’s roles and we digested them. But even the thought of seeing Dev Anand as an old Grandfather was highly disturbing. He forever, remained the evergreen chocolate Hero for people of his generation.
