O Allah, we seek refuge in Allah from a knowledge that does not benefit
And from a heart that is not humble
And a soul that is satisfied
And from a dua’ that is not heard
O The Most Generous.
O Allah we ask you for beneficial knowledge
And good provision and deeds that are accepted
O The Most Merciful.
O Allah, make the best of our lives towards the end of it,
And the best deeds of our deeds the last ones,
And the best of our days the day we meet You,
While You are satisfied with us
O Lord of the worlds
O Allah we ask you for a pure life
And a good end,
And a return that is neither shameful nor disgraceful
O The Most Generous
Our Lord do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred,
Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us,
Our Lord and do not burden us with which we have no ability to bear,

Today’s Bhajan is from a Devotional film (भक्ति प्रधान ) – Bhakta Raj-1943. This was a film made by Jayant Desai Productions, Bombay. It was directed by Jayant Desai himself. The Lyricist was D.N.Madhok and the music was by C Ramchandra.

Hullo Atuldom
As a youngster, I had heard a song which had the mukhda ending with ‘prem ka hum shree ganesh karein’. At that time I didn’t know what the phrase “shree ganesh karein” meant. As time passed, I learnt that it meant a new-start for any activity or venture by seeking the blessings of your God and elders. I know for sure that followers of Islam say “Bismillah” at similar situations. I think it is a very Indian practise. I know of students who used to write some holy symbols on top of every page of their answer sheets at the time of important examinations. ( I have heard that the various education boards have prohibited this recently, don’t know if this is being implemented. 🙂 )

Non-Film Songs of Mukesh – 03
Today, 22 July 2023 marks the birth centenary day of Mukesh Chand Mathur who was born in Delhi a hundred years ago.
His wiki page gives a fair information of his life and 36 years of film career which as we are all aware is mainly as a playback singer. In the initial part of his career he also acted, produced, and composed. However, his role as a playback singer put him high up on a pedestal as one of the greatest singers of all times. A singer whose very name brings to fond memories some of the exceptional songs that he rendered. A voice which touched the inner chords of human soul. A voice which we can easily associate and link to our daily lives. For sincerity, dedication and total submission to singing is what his voice is all about. Almost every song of his is a bhajan in my view as the voice was beyond the materialistic world and has one or the other facet of life covered. My song for this special post which we shall come up a bit later is a testimony to this view.
