The movie had Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Pratima Devi, Manorama, Satyen Kappoo, Karan Dewan, Kamal kapoor, Master Alankar Joshi, Ratnamala, Master Ripple, Radhika Rani, Keshav Rana, Mushthaq Merchant, Honey Irani, Roopesh Kumar, Dev Kishen, Ashoo, Asrani, Dulari, Master Ravi, Asit Sen, Harbans Darshan. “Anarkali” (1953) was a Filmistan production movie. It was directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal. Pradeep KUmar and Bina Rai played the lead roles in this movie. Mubarak, Kuldip Kaur, Sulochana, S. L. Puri, Manmohan Krishna, Noorjahan etc were the other actors in this movie.

A wonderful, but scarcely heard melody this one. As I am scouting for more songs composed by Usha Khanna, I came across this gem of a song from the film Flat No. 9, in my collection. As I heard it again, after a long time, I simply had to send it in for posting right away. We have already discussed three songs of this film, and each one is turning out to be a melody that should have commanded more popularity and listening time on the radio waves. Alas, there are obscure films and unheard songs that are almost lost. But play them, and the music lover’s heart will fill with appreciation, and also wonder, ‘where was this song so far’.

I have mentioned it that drunkard songs, in which an actor is seen getting drunk and singing asong is mainly a preserve of male actors. On the other hand, a woman getting drunk and making a spectacle of herself is considered rather unheard of. That is why one rarely finds songs in which female actors are seen singing drunkard songs.

Early 1970s had seen some non mainstream movies made on “bold” subjects. The movie watchers, as well as the movie critics were not mature enough to appreciate these movies. These movies were badly panned by the critics and such movies flopped. “Dastak”, “Chetna” and ‘Do Raahaa” were a few such movies.
