I am sure you must have heard the names of Music Directors Fakir Muhammed, Shambhoo, Dattaraj, Brij Bhushan, Raj Ratan, Ronodev Mukherjee, Kamalkant and Vishnu Khanna.
No ? I am surprised. OK. At least you must be knowing Music Directors Ajay, Baboo Singh or Vijay Honavar ? Your blank face says, you have never heard their names.
I am not asking you names of Music Directors from the 1930s or 1940s. All these were composers in the 1960s. If I ask you about Satyam, Jagdish or Ratandeep-Hemraj, what will you say ?
These were Music Directors in the 1970s. They composed music for 5 to 15 films each in the 70s.

Today’s song is from a 1942 film-Nayi Duniya. After a draught of success, Naushad entered the year 1942. Nai Duniya was his 5th and final film before he began his Success Marathon of jubilees. Out of the 3 films in 1942, his other two films Sharda and Station Master celebrated Silver jubilees. It was only this film-Nai Duniya-which did not celebrate a Jubilee, but this film was no less important and it was a Milestone in the history of HFM.

While at school, he was nicknamed ‘Matinee Show’ by his classmates. And here is why. One or more times a week, he would play truant from his home. Climbing down from his first floor room, after he had been sent to bed, and the rest of the family was asleep or getting ready to sleep. He would make a beeline to a nearby cinema theatre, and watch the night shows of the films then currently showing. Sometimes it would also be films from Hollywood. The next day at school, he regaled his classmates with the stories of the films he saw. And not just simply the stories, he would play act some of the scenes to the delight of his friends. And so they nicknamed him ‘Matinee Show’.
This young boy went on to become one of leading producer-director in the Hindi film industry.
