Lata Mangeshkar sang only 11 duets with G M Durrani. 6 out of these 11 have been sung in 1948-49. In the book ‘Lata Mangeshkar …. in her own voice – Conversations with Nasreen Munni Kabir’ (2009), she has mentioned that her first song for Naushad was a duet with G M Durrani haay chhore ki zaat badi bewafaa for ‘Chaandni Raat'(1949). At that time Durrani made some personal remarks about the necklace she was wearing. She did not like his remarks and brought this to the notice of Naushad. Knowing that she was a sensitive person, Naushad replaced Durrani and took Sadat Khan for her second duet in the same film. However, this duet was edited out from the film.

An old adage – they say that the real geniuses leave early. Many an instance are scattered all over the history timeline. Gosh, she was still 4 months short of her 40th birthday when she gave up her resistance to the personal tragedies and tribulations, making her way out of the miserable labyrinths of control and manipulations that she was subjected to most of her life. The best way to write about a poet is to write about his works, his poetry. But when we come to a poet of the stature of Rajinder Krishan, it becomes a very difficult task to write about his poetry. One simply does not know where to start. The body of work is enormous, and the number of pleasing heart stealers is so numerous, that just a sample list of favorites will go beyond a reasonable length for a write up. And no matter how representative one makes this sampler list, readers and friends will come up with wonderful gems of A grade quality that must be included.

Hindi film music is like an ocean. As many rivers merge into the ocean at various stages, regional music from various parts of India is assimilated in HFM(Hindi Film Music). Initially it was the Marathi stage/natya sangeet and Parsee theatre which influenced HFM. In the East, it was Rabindra sangeet and Nazrul Geete thate made the basis of film songs.
