“Baghdad” (1952) is a B grade Hindi movie starring Bhagwan, Begam Para, Bharti Devi, Hari Shivdasani, Anwar Hussain etc. Like most B grade movies, this movie too has entered the hall of obscurity.

I have discussed one song from “Mirza Sahiban”(1947) in the past. considering that this is one of the four major tradional Punjabi tragic love stories, one would normally expect to have love songs (tragic or otherwise) in a movie like this. So I am pleasantly suprised to find that this movie has a light hearted song as well.

Using the word “Chaand” in the lyrics, if done carefully, has the effect of making the song a nice romantic song. and if the title of the movie itself is “Chaand”, and the song is picturised on a “chaandni raat” (full moon light), then the effect is incredible and it leads to the kind of songs that I describe as a “Chaayaageet” songs.

I am aware of a movie called “Chaand” (1959), but I have found that another movie of a same name was released in 1944 too. This earlier movie, viz “Chaand” (1944) had Sitara,Prem Adeeb,Sapru,Bega Para etc in it.

While looking for some other songs to discuss, I have come across this wonderful song about which I knew nothing. This song is from a forgotten movie called “Ek Do Teen” (1953). This movie had Motilal,Meena Shorey,Om Prakash,Indira Bansal,Majnu, Yashodhara etc in it.

“Kaneez” (1949) is a by now forgotten movie with names like Munawwar Sultana, Shyam, Kuldip Kaur, Khwaja Sabir, Sinha etc in it.

“Ham Sab Chor Hain” (1956) was a light hearted movie which was written and directed by I S Johar. This movie had some interesting comedy songs in it that are nice to listen to.

Yesterday I stumbled upon a very old song. This song is a qawwaali and I was pleasantly surprised by it. This qawwali is from a movie called “Beqasoor” (1950).

Aji preet ka naataa toot gayaa

I have posted several songs from “Do Bhai” (1947). It is this movie where Geeta Ray (as Geeta Dutt was then known) first came to limelight with her “mera sundar sapna beet gayaa”. I have since come across other Geeta Dutt songs from this movie which I liked even more.
