“Daroga jee” (1949) was a one woman show all the way. This movie, produced by Nargis Arts (Nargis’ home production) was meant to show Nargis’ ability to sing all kinds of songs. So far as many as seven songs picturised on Nargis have been discussed in this blog, in which she was shown singing romantic song, broken heart song, bullying shopkeepers song, etc etc.

“Jogan” (1950) is full of songs. In fact there are so many songs in it that there may not be much room for normal dialogues in this movies, I think. I have read somewhere that as many as 12 songs in this movie were sung by Geeta Dutt alone !

“Paisa” (1957), by now an obscure movie was a Prithvi theatre production. It was directed by Prithviraj Kapoor. This movie had Prithviraj Kapoor, Kuldip Kaur, Zohra Sehgal,Urza Mumtaz, Ravindra Kapoor, Vishwa Mehra, Ermeline, Sudesh Kumar, Pushpa,Sunder, Shree Ram etc in it.

I just stumbled upon this rare song from an unheard of movie called “Saudaamini” (1950). On checking up, this movie is a National Screen production and it was directed by P C Joshi. The movie had Cuckoo, Leela Chitnis, P. Joshi, Sona Chatterji, Bikram Kapoor, Zubeida etc in it.

Among poor section of society, especially in rural areas, being a policeman is the ultimate dream of unemployed youths. They want to become policemen because to them policeman symbolises unlimited power and authority, which enables them to bully and harass ordinary public. Whenever there are recruitments for policemen there are thousands of aspirants for a limited number of posts. And all these aspirants look dreamy eyed at the policeman and wish- “Only if I can somehow become a policeman. Then see what I will do.” I have actually heard a desperate aspirant utter such words in a police recruitment drive. 🙂

This movie is called “Chhupa Rustam” (1965) which could translate to “undercover agent” in English. Now this movie and this song actually are “Chhupa Rustam” in the sense that few people including the authoritative Geet Kosh seem to be aware of this song. For that matter, people are not even aware of the existence of this movie either though movies of the same name which were released in 1970s and 1990s are somewhat better known.
