Today’s song is from a stunt film – Bahadur-1944. This was one of those ordinary films made by Jagriti Pictures, Bombay, owned by Master Bhagwan. The film was also directed by Bhagwan and the film’s music was provided by his friend C.Ramchandra with an alias Ram Chitalkar. The Lyricist was Ehsan Rizvi and the cast of the films was Baburao Pehelwan, Bhagwan, Shanta Patel, Samson, Bhagwandas, yeshwant, Bibi, Surekha and Nirasha (what a name ! Her parents must have expected a Boy baby and she was born, hence she must have been named as Nirasha. My intelligent guess !).

Today’s song is from the film Majboori-1954.

The song-“Tere poojan ko Bhagwan, bana man mandir aalishan”- is a famous traditional song. Not only in a few Hindi films, but the song is also sung by many singers as NFS. No one knows how old this song is or who is the original Lyricist of this song. It is sung like a Bhajan by most people.

I have come across 3 Hindi films on the story of ‘Krihsna-Arjuna Yuddh’. I had never heard of the story of war between Krishna and Arjun in Mahabharat. How could they be at war with each other when Arjun and Lord Krishna were not only great friends but they were also relatives. Then how did the story of ‘Krishna-Arjuna Yuddh’ emerge? I could not get the slightest indication of the story even as a sub-plot in Mahabharat. A search on the internet revealed that there was indeed a story of Krishna-Arjun war. I came across at least two such stories with some minor variations though the main theme (the reasons for the war) remained the same in both the stories. There may be a few more versions of this story.

POST NO. 1000
——————————-

I had never imagined that in my life I would ever write 1000 articles on old films and music. When I retired from my regular service in 1998, I had many offers from the Pharma Industry, because of my 35 years’ successful track record. I had joined the Pharma giant – Glaxo Laboratories as a Medical Representative and retired as the General Manager – Marketing.

Today’s song is from film Bade Nawab Saheb-44. It was a Muslim social film, produced by Silver films – a joint venture of actors Kumar and Chandra Mohan. The film was directed by Vedi, a name about which I could not get any information except that he was a director from the Silent era. In the Talkie era, he has 4 films to his credit as director. First film is Bade nawab saheb-44, then Naseeb-45, Room Number-9 – 46, and For Ladies only-51. This is all I know about Vedi. Unfortunately, we do come across few such names from the early era films. This is because we have very poor documentation. Information on big actors etc is available. That is why the task of Hindi film History students (like me, for example) is tough in securing and recording information for the posterity.
