C Ramchandra was one of the first music directors to make the most of Lata’s voice. In fact, C Ramchandra’s association with Lata was somewhat similar to O P Nayyar’s association with Asha in more ways than one. It was C Ramchandra who played an important role in making Lata the singer that she became in 1950s.

As sad songs go, this song must rank among the saddest and most poignant. Sahir Ludhianvi’s lyrics sum up the situation with the force of a well oiled sledge hammer. Hemant Kumar’s voice conveys tha pain of the protagonist so well that listeners cannot help but be moved even today, more than six decades later.

Name of the movie (Paapi) does not ring a bell and the music director ( S Mohinder) is just as unknown, but the song is wonderful. Written by Rajinder Krishan, the lyrics are so nice to go through. The song is sung by Rafi and picturised on Raj Kapoor.
