As this blog had continued on its onward journey from its humble beginning in July 2008, we have come across many festivals and we have discussed songs related to those festivals on those occasions. Unlike radio and TV stations, we in this blog do not repeat songs again and so I was always under the apprehension that I would run out of festival songs after some time. This is the sixth Holi festival for this blog. I find that I keep discovering “new” Holi songs even now. Moreover, our extremely knowledgeable readers and contributors continue to unearth “new” songs for these occasions.

Raag Maalikaa in Hindi Films – 5
=====================

‘Sau Saal Baad’ of 1966 was an unsuccessful ghostly mystery film, produced by B K Dubey. The star cast included Feroz Khan, Kumkum, Manmohan Krishna, Rajendra Nath, D K Sapru etc. Lyrics were by Aanand Bakshi and the superb music by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The music duo, with good knowledge of classical music composed this RaagaMaala, one of the best to be composed in Hindi Films. Singers Manna Dey and Lata Mangeshkar were unmatched as they always were, whenever singing of classical songs in HFM was concerned. Anand Bakshi provided beautiful typical traditional type of lyrics for those four compositions in Raagas Dhanya Dhaivat (a rare Raaga), Abhogi, Megh Malhar and Basant Bahar. The impressive violin piece after the first part, was played by Pt. Husnalal, who gave hit music in many Hindi films of Forties and Fifties with his brother, a team well-known as Husnalal-Bhagatram.

Raag Maalikaa in Hindi Films – 4
=====================

Amar Samaadhi was due to some unknown reasons, an unreleased film of sixties, but this marvellous music composition is evergreen and does not need any labels for its supreme quality of music. It was produced under the banner of Atre Pictures and directed by Shahu Modak. Shyama and Shahu Modak were the leading team, but little is known about the other star cast. Vasant Desai composed music to the lyrics of Bharat Vyas. It seems that at least three songs were recorded, a Lata solo (Poonam ki chanderi raaton mein) a Lata Rafi duet (Aaj ke prabhaat ki paheli kiran) and this RaagaMaala.
