Today (9 July 2025) is the birth centenary of Guru Dutt (9 July 1925-10 october 1964). What a coincidence that today is 6200th day of the blog as well.
Guru Dutt had already carved a niche for himself in Hindi film industry by the time he was gone. He was just 39 years old when he expired. He had a very troubled personal life which took its toll on him (as well as on his wife Geeta Dutt). Both of them legends, but both of them were taken away when so young. Guru Dutt left for the heavenly abode at the age of 39, Geeta Dutt was 41 when she departed. Both of them already have two decades of stellar accomplishments behind them and both had become legends by the time they departed.
It is worth noting that almost all movies where Guru Dutt figured have already been YIPPEED in the blog. Only exception being “Lakharani” (1945) which was his debut film, and “Sailaab”(1956). His other films, viz. “Hum Ek Hain”(1946), Girls’s school”(1949), “Sangram” (1950),”Baazi”(1951), “Jaal”(1952), “Baaz”(1953), “Aar Paar”(1954), Mr and Mrs 55 (1955), “CID”(1956),’Pyaasa”(1957), Kaaghaz Ke Phool”(1959), “Chaudhvin Ka Chaand”(1960),”Saahib Bibi aur Ghulam”(1962) ,”Bahurani”(1963) and “Saanjh aur Sawera”(1964) have already been YIPPEED in the blog.

Today’s song is from a film which makes its Debut on this Blog – Chingari-1940.
There were two more films called ‘Chingari’ – in 1955 and 1971 and both are represented here with many songs. I wonder how the first film Chingari-1940 missed the bus ? This set my mind to do some statistical work.

Hullo Atuldom
Just heard this absolutely melodious Holi song in the voice of Shreya Ghoshal which I felt should find a place in this blog.
It is from a recent film- “Begum Jaan” which released in 2017 (already 8 years). It was directed and co-written by National Film Award-winning director Srijit Mukherji in his Hindi directional debut and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Vishesh Bhatt and Play Entertainment. The film is co-produced by Sakshi Bhatt and Shree Venkatesh Films with executive producer Kumkum Saigal. Lyrics, additional screenplay and dialogues have been penned by Kausar Munir and Rahat Indori. Anu Malik was the music director of the 6 songs that were sung by Asha Bhonsle, Shreya Ghoshal, Kavita Seth, Sonu Nigam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Srijit Singh, Kalpana Patowary, Altamash Faridi, and Anmol Malik (Anu Malik’s daughter).

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

#Taraanaa-1979#
——————————
“Taraanaa-1979” was a movie from Rajshri Productions. The production house of Rajshri’s are known for ‘clean, musical, family entertainer’ movies. Their movies always bear shots of picturesque locations too.
Taraanaa’ is a movie of the same genre that Rajshree Productions were known for. I had not watched this movie in those years when it was released. However, I was familiar with its songs that had become popular during its time. The most popular song from this movie was ‘Sultana Sultana meraa naam hai Sultana’. It featured in the annual Binaca Geetmala of 1980 in fifteenth position. Another song from this movie ‘ham tum dono saath mein bheeg jaayenge barsaat mein’ was also frequently heard. But the song that I associated with this movie was the song ‘gunche lage hain kahne’ which I presented here in July last year when I watched this movie on a video sharing platform.
