#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
———————————————————————
The song in this post is a song from a recent movie by the standards of this blog. It is from the year ‘1981’ and the title of the movie it is ‘Sant Gyaaneshwar’. I doubt how many of us remember that there was a movie with this title in the year 1981. As for me, I have never heard or read about this movie of 1981. On the other hand it is the movie ‘Sant Gyaaneshwar’ of 1964 that I am aware of from my childhood days. I remember this movie title because of its memorable songs. My guess is that this movie 1981 with the same title ended up becoming a forgotten movie immediately after its release. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 03.03.1981.

Today’s song is a very good Bhajan from the film Achhut-1940.
This film was made by Ranjit Movietone. The director was Chandulal Shah, Lyricist P.L.Santoshi and the M.D. was Gyan Dutt. The cast included Gohar Mamajiwala, Motilal, Vasanti, Charlie, Sitara Devi, Mazhar, Yakub and others.
Hindi film industry’s growth in Bombay in the early years from 1920s to 1940s was contributed to by 2 major communities. One of them was the Gujarati businessmen who immediately identified this business as the future gold mine. The other major community was the local Marathi, who lent their brain and hard work to this industry. As the time went by, people from Punjab, UP, Bengal and other states of India joined hands to help this industry to prosper. However, till the mid 1950s it was the Gujarati Sethias who poured the finances. Financiers like Sampat Sheth, Gokuldas Pasta, Manik Sheth Patel, Chunilal Munim, Mangaldas Parekh, Abdulali Yusufali, Mohd Ali Rangwala, Chimanlal Desai, Bhogilal Dave, Mayashanker Bhatt etc. only supplied the money, but never dabbled in other departments nor did they learn anything about the film making, more than what was needed to get some profits.

Today’s song is from the film Bhakta Kabir-1942.
For the last two months’ period, I was very busy. First it was my ill health during which I spent a few days in Hospital also. After that I started doing my routine work. Then there was one company’s Board meeting which, being one of the Directors, I had to prepare and attend. After that I resumed my writing work and then some visitors came last week. Ms. Nupur Mitra, daughter of the legendary singer Jagmohan Sursagar came with her team-as per our plan- in connection with her forthcoming book on Jagmohan.

Today’s song is a rare Bhajan from the film Jai Hanuman-1948.
A few days back, I got a message from our friend Gajendra Khanna ji, along with this song. He suggested that I write a post on it. This song was given to him long ago by Suman Chaurasia ji who had got it from Girdharilal Vishwakarma ji. When I heard this song, I was very much impressed with its tune, music and melody. Since the song was in MP3 format, I requested Sadanand Kamath ji to upload this song, so that I could use it for my post. However, Sadanand ji found that this song was already posted recently by the Saregama company. He sent me its link.

Exactly one year back (on 6 February 2023) I debuted on this blog as a contributor. Then I had said to my ‘technical support’ Avinash ji, “I will be sending at least one post per month”. He had enthusiastically and encouragingly replied then, “Sir Ji, do it once a week. I am there with you.” It is one year or twelve months or fifty- six weeks now to that day and my contribution on the blog is total three posts only instead of ‘fifty-two’ posts :). These three posts includes the one recently posted on 22nd January this year on the pious occasion of Shree Ram Praan-pratishthha at Ayodhya (this was actually a hurriedly planned post and I had written it in around fifteen minutes or so).
I never stop wondering at the capacity of the regular (or frequent) contributors on the blog particulary like our Shri Arun ji, Sadanand Kamath ji, Peevesie’s Mom ji et al. Atul ji of course, goes without saying.
