I was aware of movies called ” Jawaab” that were released in 1942 and 1970, but it turns out that there was another movie with this title that was released in 1955. This movie, viz. “Jawaab” (1955) had Nasir Khan,Geeta Bali ,,Balraj Sahni ,Johnny Walker, Mukri ,Achala Sachdev, Master Romi ,Tun Tun (Uma Devi) etc. Despite such impressive starcast, this movie apparently ended up as an obscure movie, so obscure in fact that few people seem to be aware of this movie.

A movie like “Mughal e Azam” (1960) can boggle one’s mind even today, more than half a century after this movie was released. And I am not just taliking about the movie. I am talking about several aspects of the movie. It was a magnum opus in every respect.

“Aar Paar” (1954) was a milestone in the history of Hindi movies. It was one of the first suspense thrillers in Hindi movies. The music of this movie broke new grounds. The music was a breathtaking combination of Indian and Western influences. The same could be said about the picturisation of the movie and its songs. It is quite obvious that the makers of this movie had drawn inspiration liberally from western movies and from western music.

These days I have become interested in statistics regarding Rafi Lata duets. I have mentioned that Rafi and Lata figured in some 410 plus duets. Their very first duet was recorded in 1947 and it was for a movie called “Shaadi Se Pehle” (1947). It was followed by a one year hiatus and then they recorded as many as 17 duets in 1949.
