“Kismat” (1943) is a movie which was produced by Bombay Talkies Ltd, Bombay. Gyan Mukherji was the producer and the star cast had Ashok Kumar, Mumtaz Shanti, Shah Nawaz, Moti, P.F.Pithawala, Prahlad, Harun, Mubarak etc. This movie was India’s first multi starrer movie and also the most successful movie of those days. This movie was the original lost and found movie which was then copied and emulated in countless number of movies for several decades to come.

“Chhora Chhori” (1955) is by now an obscure movie. This movie was a “Show Peoples” production. It was produced and directed by Kidar Sharma. Cast of this movie includes names like Nand Kishore, Pratima Devi, Geeta Bali, Pesi Patel, Madhvi, Rashid Khan, Agha, Tony Walker etc.

“Anand Math” (1952) is a novel written by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay which was first published in 1882. This novel served as a major source of inspiration for Indian freedom fighters against the British rulers. The British rulers banned this novel and this ban was lifted only after India gained independence. “Vandematram”, a song contained in the novel became Indian’s national song.

It was on 16th november 1917 that Chitragupta Srivastava was born in Bihar. He went to Bombay and earned fame as music director Chitragupta. He preferred to keep a low profile and was happy to compose for B grade movies, where he composed absolutely A grade music. A grade movie makers would have happily worked with Chitragupta if only Chitragupta had gone and met them. For instance, the first time that Chitragupta met with Raj Kapoor was in 1980s, when his music director sons Anand and Milind introduced him to raj Kapoor at a function. And Raj Kapoor told him that he would have definitely used him as a music director in his movies if only he had met him.

16th november 1966 was the day when Roshan, then at the peak of his career expired all of a sudden. That happened exactly 45 years ago and lots of water has flown under the bridge since. His two sons managed to have reasonable careers in Hindi movies, with one of his songs following in his steps as a music director. and his grandson, who was born several years after his death became a superstar of Hindi movies. Today many people of the younger generation remember Roshan as the grandfather of Hrithik Roshan. As far as people of my generation as well as older generation is concerned, Hrithik Roshan is the grand son of Roshan and not vice versa. The fact that the first name of Roshan Lal Nagrath should be adopted as the surname by his sons and grandsons shows what a huge star Roshan was. His name sold, and it sells today, and it will sell long after Hrithik Roshan has retired.
