Atul Song-A-Day 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 9
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
With some apprehensions and some anxiety, I put forward my first effort at writing an article on this blog. As has been mentioned by Sudhir ji in the previous post, I have been active in the comments space since September 2012. However, the delay in the first post coming up here, has not been from my side. 😉 This first post I had written almost a year ago, and sent to Atul ji in June last year. For some reasons, maybe it got lost in the pile of emails he receives, which he assures me, is the case.

The Voice of Mukesh #63
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –
For this edition of Voice of Mukesh, I go back to 1947 and the film ‘Neel Kamal’. An unexpected and unlisted song from this film that has been sporadically heard and available on internet, but original version from the film in the voice of Mukesh is a scarce commodity. This song was pointed out to me by Harish ji Raghuvanshi, in one of his email responses to my queries about other unlisted songs of Mukesh or songs that were discovered after the publication of the Mukesh Geet Kosh by him.

“Be imaan” (1972) had bagged as many as seven filmfare awards, and that included the best actor award for Manoj Kumar for his performance in the film.

The Voice of Mukesh #59
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –
At last I have been able to locate and acquire this song that has been pending in this journey of Mukesh songs, for quite some time. This song from 1948, could not be showcased earlier. There is one version available on the YouTube, but that is just one third of the song, only about one minute of play. (I have written about this behavior of some people, who will post partial songs online, and then wait for others to get in touch with them. There is a commercial angle involved here). Any way, I have now been able to get this song from another friend and fan of Mukesh.

The Voice of Mukesh #58

Yes, I return to 1948 again today. A song that has been pending, for want of being located. And now I have it. The film is ‘Chaand Sitaare’. And lo, what a gem of a song has been discovered. Every time such a thing happens, i.e. coming across an unheard and a very obscure gem, there is such a feeling of exhilaration on the discovery. And also, the reassurance that there still are many such songs waiting out there in what we call the ocean of Hindi film music, all waiting for someone to pick them up and bring up to the surface and to the attention of the listeners. Oh yes, I am sure many people with a long association with this love of Hindi film music would have heard of this and other such lost gems. But getting to it and finding out that it is now available online, gives such a sense of accomplishment.

The Voice of Mukesh #54

As we are getting close to the end of list for the Mukesh songs for 1950, the songs are increasingly becoming difficult to trace. Today’s song I have been able to locate in my own collection, and am posting it online, for the first time today. The film is an obscure one, titled ‘Raaj Mukut’. The film is a production from Mohan Pictures, Bombay and is directed by Nanubhai Vakil. The film has an impressive star cast that includes Nimmi, Veena, Jairaj, Ram Singh, Sapru, Mishra, Gulab, Ramesh Sinha, Ramesh Thakur, Jankidas, Baby Tabassum.

Kahaani Kismat Ki

“Kahaani Kismat Ki” (1973) was produced and directed by Arjun Hingorani, who pioneered the use of movie titles beginning with the letter K. Unlike those who came in late (read Ekta Kapoor), he would have three word titles, and each word would begin with K. Apart from “Kahaani Kismat Ki”, his other titles read “”Kab Kyun aur Kahaan” (1970), “Khel Khilaadi Ka” (1977), “Kaattilon Ke Kaatil”(1981) and “Kaun Kare Kurbaani” (1991). Clearly the letter K was lucky for Arjun Hingorani.

This is a brother-sister song about ‘bidaayi’ from the film the film ‘Adaalat (1976). Only one song from this film is posted in the blog i.e. the popular duet Ho tumse door rahke hamne jaana pyaar kya hai.
